:beerchug: Looks grand :beerchug:
Thanks bro!

I got a little bit done today. I started working on my center console which incorporates an ammo can. The ammo can idea wasn't mine exactly. There are some guys here that already have done this. Although, I think I may have done this a bit differently.

This is what I have.

I made the base to mount and space the ammo can higher up so it could double as an arm rest. The space underneath will house my add on fuse panels and a switched relay.  I made the piece flip up via a hinge in the back so access to the fuse panel below is no major task.  :gap:

Here it is bolted down with the fuse panel in it's final location.

The only fitment issue I had was with the ammo can latch. It would hit the twin stick shifters when you tried to unlatch the lid.   I could have moved the can further back to clear the shifters but the further back I moved the can the less functional it became so this placement was the compromise. After a little creative planning here's what it looks like now.

Now I can open it regardless  of shifter position.

Your a GENIUS!! That looks awesome! I wish that had a few minutes and a little extra sheetmetal. What are those fuses and stuff for under the ammo box?
Thanks!  :beerchug:

The fuses are for all my added on stuff which require 12V at all times and/or switched power. Such as my CB radio, satelite radio, stereo and other goodies. And there is room to add other stuff as well. All this so I don't have to load my 24 yr old factory wiring with all those cool things that didn't exist when the truck was new.   It helps cut down on all the hacking of the electrical system too.

I've done other things to it which I won't show here so not to advertise my audio equipment. But i'd be glad to show it to you and give you a personal tour.  :gap:

Looking real good.   One century when I can do half doors I always pictured a little flapp with a storage place such as that.   mostly along the whole bottom of the door so I could at least fit a hoody in there, after all it's cloudy alot in santa cruz.

The spring idea was genious by the way!   :beerchug:
If I can help ya with that let me know. Be glad to give ya a hand with building some doors.

The spring thing.... :disturbed:...admittedly, that was kinda on accident. When I saw that hinge in bulk I wasn't sure about using it until I thought about it a little better. Then I thought ....aww, what the heck?! So I tried it and it seems to work nicely.  :cheese:

You obviously don't plan on going swimming.....

Lookin good, but I'd move the fuse block higher :twocents:
You're right! I don't plan on any bridgeless water crossings where a bridge would be appropriate.  :gap:

Surely, you must have my rig confused with another X-tra cab rig we all know.  :disturbed:

If I do have issues with water intrusion I may reconsider their location. But for now, bigger projects beckon for their completion.  :beerchug:

Perhaps some waterproof connection sealer. My car trailer has this silicone stuff on the connectors at the nose of the trailer. I think its also called liquid electrical tape or something like that.
 Dieelectric silicone grease like the kind we use at work. That stuff is the shizz for sure.   Connections can practically live underwater with virtually no trouble at all.  :gap: It's awesome on battery connections too.

Well, I got some more stuff done over the last few days. The "elbow smasher" has been fixed.  :gap:

I found this cool looking material at a fabric store and it was on sale too!  :eyebrow: I picked up some 2" thick foam padding and a small sheet of 1/4" plywood.  This is what I came up with. Not my finest work for a first time but I'm satisfied for now.  :cheese:

I cut out the center to fit over the handle on the lid of the ammo can then I secured it to the lid with some screws from the bottom side.

And, of course, the before and after.

I also found the perfect padding for inside the lock boxes in the half doors. It's basically the same rubber foam they use to make flip-flops ("thongs" is no longer a suitable word for this type of foot wear)   :suprised: :ack:

Then I cut the flip-flop (not thong  :psss:) material to the right size pieces I needed and fit them to the box.  :joke:

I think I'll get more of the foam rubber padding to line the inside of the ammo can as well.

I'm also gonna make some door panels for the half doors with the same material I used on the ammo can lid.   So far so good.  :wiggle:

I did some work on the storage rack for the doors today.

I added some wheels to it for carting the doors around when I need to. Just need to finish the latching end and then she'll be ready for paint.

I had some other trouble today. My compressor completely crapped out.  :wall: :censored: :tantrum:  So, I just had to take it apart.  :gap:

Some slight damage to the piston and ring and the cylinder.   :suprised:

I coulda used the compressed air today too to cut the metal for the door rack. Stupid plasma cutter, now I'm spoiled.  :shhh: (don't tell my wife, I'll never hear the end of it  :disturbed:)  I resorted to cut off wheels and a sawzall.  :shakehead:

I got some work done to the door panels also. Here's some pics of the work.

1)  the plywood is shaped to the part of the door it gonna cover.

2)  the holes are marked for drilling.

3)  Drilled through the wood and the door skin for aligning the holes between
     the two pieces.

4)  Pilot hole in door.

5)  then opened up the holes in the panel.

6)  I used these little guys where you can't get a wrench to tighten nuts from
     inside the door.

7)  Here it is with the inserts in the right places and ready for the next step.

1)  I found the hardware I thought would look good for attaching the panels.

2)  Here's the panels after I covered them.

3)  and then the hardware installed to the panel.

4)  Here's what the finished door panels look like.

Going back out this morning to finish the top pad for the door and that just about completes the doors for now.

very nice build you have just convinced me to go rears up front as i was on the fence about it.
Thanks! And  :welcome: 2 Marland... :beerchug:

Look around the site and you will see others who have used RUF with varying results. Glad to hear you'll be building up a rig.

nice truck too, and it looks like you have a chebys with dual shackles, is that right?  how do you like that set up?
They are the 63" Chevy rears.   I haven't had any problems as so many claim to have had, so far so good.    In other words, I like 'em

Again, look around the site, you will see that people have different views on this set up.  :cheese:

and like the ammo can as a console too ver nice
I appreciate all the great comments and while I can't take credit for the use of an ammo can as a center console I can say the arrangement in how I used it was completely my idea.

:psss: Oh and do take the time to properly introduce yerself in the check in thread so everyone can make your acquaintance.

http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?board=7.0

Best half doors ever!
WOW! Thanks for the awesome compliment!  :cheese: :beerchug:
