Its called proper engineering and weight distribution. Its amazing what you can do with vehicles that have actually been built correctly

What is the top vehicle? Is it available in the US?

:wave:

It has many names. So the simplest answer for you is;
T3 Syncro Double Cab, or Doka  (Think Vanagon chasis with a truck body)

More technical answer;
Volkswagen Type 2 (T3 (aka T25)) Transporter DoubleCab Syncro (Rally Race prepped)

Syncro = all wheel drive

Doka = double or twin cab, derived from German word Doppelkabine

My guess is that one is late 80’s. They were never officially sold in the US, but they have a huge cult like following.  I saw one go for $40,000 last month and have seen them go for almost $90,000 for a Syncro Vanagon.
They are amazing vehicles, and I love watching the old rally versions in action.
Here is a concept car picture
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/56/VW_T3_Syncro_DoKa_Pritsche_Concept_MAGMA_1987_frontleft_2008-03-28_A.jpg
Here is a good basic lowdown.

Even more history on the Syncro in general.
http://www.vwt2oc.com/View/syncro.aspx

Probably more VW than you ever wanted to know. :gap:  sorry I really like them.

Thanks for the (incredibly) in-depth response. I may win some brownie points with you if I tell you I want my next Toy project to be a TDI conversion in my 85...huh, huh, huh?
