Help with bearing removal Please
« on: Jan 02, 2007, 06:51:31 PM »
I'm trying to change my 21 spline input with a 23. I was wondering how you get the bearing off the shaft. I don't have a bearing splitter thin enough to fit between the gear and the bearing. It's pretty tight. Is there another way or hould I just press a new bearing on the new input shaft. Thanks much.

Hells yeah, if you have the opportunity to replace a bearing, always replace the bearing.  You can't go wrong with new bearings.
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

In certain cases I would prefer a used toyoya bearing to a cheap replacement. Get some quality parts and you will be fine.

Thanks, I figured that was the way to go. The bearing is mint though. Seems like a shame. Plus I don't think that bearing is going to be cheap.

you would be better of  getting a bearing from Marlin  OR  get a tranny shop  to remove the bearing, but make sure they know you MUST RE USE THAT BEARING

I wasn't really advocating a cheap replacement...get a proper timken bearing.

Well I'll try and get some prices on the bearing first. If it's not too expensive I'll just replace it. Otherwise ya I think I'll try the tranny shop. Thanks.

It's a Nachi bearing and I'll replace it with the same. Sometimes I wish I could just cut corners then maybe I wouldn't be so poor :shake:

Since I've got your attention. I'm building a crawl box and noticed small cracks in the case on the inside. Looks to me like it might be part of the casting process. None of them go through. Is this normal?

Where are you located? If you're reasonably close, I'll help you out.

:_oops:  Little far, then...If you've got the right press adapters, it can be done without a bearing splitter.  Or get creative with a torch and some 1/4" plate.

Well I just talked to my brother who works in an industrial supply shop. He can get me the the Nachi 6307 for $10 CDN and the 6308 for $14. So I'm just going to get new ones.
