"Later, I learned that even though I engage 4WD my hubs are not automatically locking? Something about manual locking hubs I think. What's manual mean? I need to read a manual to lock them? lol  So I found these neat autolocking hubs and installed them. Sometimes they dont stay locked while I am backing up, but that's fine because I dont have a backup camera to see where Im going (like our RV) so I just simply dont ever back up"- BigMike

well, it looks cool. I like the old school look. Cobras are supposed to be good. The past 2 I have had broke (probably operator error) but I still like them

The 148's are the top of the line but it's as high as you can go with a AM only radio.. The 148 lets you use AM/USB/LSB..

Just go down to a local truckstop and look for them. You can find them as low as $89.95( saw that price just this week in MN ).. Don't go bidding on a used CB.. It's not worth it.  Of course that's my  :twocents:

USB LSB  Upper and lower side bands.  Basically you go from 40 channels to a zillion.

I had a 29LTD.  Nice radio, but just too big.  I pulled it and put in a smaller unit.  (Uniden, Cobra, Radio Shack)  Am happy with it and it does great on the trail.

:snare: How many times am I going to have to write this.. You have 40 channels on a AM only cb.. The AM/USB/LSB
cb also has only 40 channels. just three differnet modes.. The fequency of the channels does not change when you go from AM to Side Band.  Am uses One carrier and two side bands to make the signal.. Side band use NO carrier and only one side band. That way there is three times the power in the signal basicly..

check the truckstops  they usually have something on sale

Uniden's last in the offroad dust and vibration my 1st was a Uniden and I took it out when I sold the truck and have run it in several other rigs too. I also just throw in a Radioshack special since they are so cheap, I've run them in my Samurai's since they tend to get wet in an open vehicle and I didn't want to screw up my Uniden.

This is the one I use and it works fine. Doesn't take up much room eaither. Got it from Raido Shack.

I've got two older radio shack realistics, big and bulky but very reliable!  (made by uniden)  And two models of the uniden cb's too.  They all work very well.  The bigest factor is the terrain and your coax and antennae!  There is a very big debate on location, location, location, and location of the antennae.  Then more discussion on the length of coax and how to properly wind up the extra length of coax.  And then the biggest discussion of the type of antennae!  Do a little internet search on cb's and there are more sites just on cb's than 4x4's!

I BOUGHT A 60 DOLLAR ONE FROM WAL-MART! IT'S A COBRA AND IT HAS LASTED QUITE A WHILE! EVEN AFTER I MOVED IT FROM MY TERCEL TO MY TRUCK. BASICALLY I LOOKED AT WHERE I WAS GOING TO PUT IT AND I BOUGHT THE ONE THAT WOULD FIT THERE THE BEST! I'LL TRY TO GET A PIC OF IT...IT WAS WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY I PAID BECAUSE IT PITS PERFECTLY UNDER MY RADIO IN THE DASHBOARD!
