New Bushing = New Bolt?
« on: Oct 30, 2006, 04:04:08 PM »
When I swap out the bushings on my springs/shackles, should I change the bolts at the same time?  I have the greasable bolts and they're a bit expensive, but if that's what it takes to do the job right I'll go for it.

Thanks!

I usually use the same ones. If they can be removed that is. I usually have to cut them out :flamer:

Thanks, I'll make sure and have some spares around just in case.

Along the same lines, is there a torque spec for the bolts or do you just make sure they're good and tight?

At the top of this section, general 4wd, there's a thread for factory toyota parts discount.  I bought the factory bushings for a reasonable price.  Can't remember how much, but less than you'd expect!

I got mine from inchworm through AllPro.  I have their front springs.  They were $1.50 each.  The bolts are $12 each!!!   :shocking:  http://www.allprooffroad.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=48

There is a spec. I think it's like 63 lbs or something. Make sure the bolt/nut are snug on the bushing. If not it can cause pre-mature bushing wear/failure. U want them tight enough but not too tight to cause any binding if that makes sense

It's a good thing I decided to have some bolts on hand.  Two of them were in pretty bad shape.  I used new bolts all the way around and kept some of the old ones as spares.
