so what i have is an 85 4 runner solid axle with 5:29 gears tru trac lockers i have aor shackles and leaf sprung ,the rear is nasty im running blocks and front are lift springs. ive got the marlin dual t cases with my own crossmember 22re with dome piston and comp cam ive almost completed an exo cage thats about were im at

well here is the build ive been collecting parts for and what ive come up with is a set of scout 44s that im eqiping with5:88 and spooling the rear with arb or ox havint decided yet(let me know what you think.). ive got a set of 98 f-150 rear leafs 4"lift for the back and im going with the fox 14" travel air shocks in the front. ive got an ifs box and going to biuld high cross over steering and 1 link setup. my freind boggerrunner just did triples but i think im going to be a bit more traditional and go with the 4  7 kit but i am going to lift both the motor and t cases 3"

pics of before and the project coming soon

i wouldent bother swapping axles unless your upgrading to 60's or what im thinking about doing is swap it a 9in in the rear and a 9"/60 hybrid in the front but i cant justify that kinda project yet look forward to seeing the build

toytank

you want to hybrid a 60 ? what so you have a drop out third
old and sqeaky but she goes

yotaboy79

yep 60 outers and a removable therd

toytank

so you want to go with a smaller ring gear and smaller pinoin shaft so that you can have a third. what you cant set gears up in a carrier? not to mention the exspence to build , or the ability to repair on trail if you loose an axle, forget hybrid dude i can go to any shop or yard and get a 9" a 60 , 44 or yota axle that day and cheap, how many hybrids can you get locally in a day for under a hundred bucks

yotaboy79

i was planning on using a 9 in center section i dont see any issues with strienght and cost wouldent be that bad considering id do all the work myself and you can set it up to where it uses of the shelf shafts
i didnt mean for this to get off topic like this so ill stop waisting space in your build up thread

boggerunner

chancey is gonna let those Irok 40's sit in his garage forever, so u should buy them for the runner

If you are going to use the Scout axles you will need to clock back the knuckles.  From the factory they have almost no castor so they do not self center after turning.  Unless you clock them back you can forget about clocking the input yoke up for decreased driveline angles.

toytank

hey thanks i didnt know that, how far do i need to move them. or do you just set your pinion angle and then do the 4 degrees over center on the nuckles

screw those little 44's, i thought u were gonna use those 70's with 7.17 gears, that would be sick

Sweet rig.

Another vote here on keeping the toy axles until you can afford some 60s.

Iv ran a hp44/ff60 witha  big block on a fullsize with 40s. I got quite a few runs out of them but if i was to do it all over again instead of buying a 800 locker i would have invested in a 60 and left the front open until i could afford a locker down the road.

On a side note i broke more rear 60 shafts than front 44 shafts and hubs.  :crossed:

I plan on going 60/70 or 60/14ff. I would never invest money into building 44s for 2 reasons.
1. with all the money you put into them they still wont be as strong as a 60
2. you cant sell them for nearly as much as you paid for them.

Theres a larger market for built 60s, so theres a better chance of selling for your asking price if you did ever decide to sell. (Rockwells  :king: )

Looks like you have a great platform and glad to see that your rig gets wheeled.  :beerchug:

Chad_Romine

Sorry to keep posting on your thread but if your intrested i can get you intouch with a guy that has a f/r 70s with 7.17 gears. for 1200

so i really dont have anything new for you guys ive been working just gathering parts still. yes still. so i thiught i woulk show you guys some eartly pics of my bronco. 84 full size solide axle swap i built the radius arms steering and four link rear. its coil sprung a 4 and sits on 40x 17x r16 . locked up front and rear(welded)4:56 gears. its a fun rig its just not a yota. i have nearly 20" travel front and rear. downfalls , axles(44s), axle hop, 300 straight 6,no turning, and noses over in flight.
