Charging syetem no workie.
« on: Oct 24, 2006, 10:34:23 AM »
I got a 79 4x4 long bed for free and the original alternator and voltage regulator were allready missing.
last night i bought a new alternator and voltage regulator for it and i cant get it to charge. in my 81 manual it says that there is a diconect relay that might go bad and i am thinking that this is the problem considering that the charge light doesent work any more and in the manual it says that if the light doesnt work to check this relay. i couldent find were it is located at or if the 79's had one of these or not. also there is a single yellow wire with a female barb conector that comes off of the voltage regulator and there is nothing to conect it to besides another yellow wire with a female barb conector, not sure is some thing goes in between or not.
i will post a pic tonight if somebody that has a 79 could take a pic of there VR so i could see if there needs to be some thing in between the two yellow wires or not that would be awsome.
and if anone knows if the disconect relay realy exist or not that would be awsome also.
  thanks in advance ray

its not charging cause the "stimulater" wire isnt getting juice from the ignition  i think this  is the sideways plug  on the 3 pronge  plug
