So, when did cheerleaders start wearing pants?  :headscratch:

Our gas has officially hit $4.00 a gallon.  :rivers:

So, if it's the economy and the weak dollar (in a nutshell) thats causing the oil price to skyrocket.  What will happen when the economy and dollar get strong?  Stay the same?  The senate committee drilled the heads of big oil and each one of them make over several million just in pay alone, were quoted that if the economy and and the dollar were strong, the price of oil would be around $55 a barrel!  Not $134.

I don't think it will ever go down.

I don't know the exact amount of the dollar's decline...but, given that the Canadian dollar is now equal to ours, I'd say it's roughly worth 75 cents now. That right there would mean we're paying $1 for 75 cents worth of oil. I paid $3.47 for gas yesterday...75% of that is $2.60.

Since oil is a speculative commodity, with only a minimum price set, any fear of war or supply shortage will drive the price up. If we were able to tap into...say a couple of hundred billion barrels, in areas we control...I think any fears of a shortage would go away fairly quickly.

the only way to lift the weight off of americans is to pay the middle and lower class more on their wages.....

Where will the extra money for wages come from? Higher prices for goods and services...that's called inflation. Things would seem better for a short while, then when everything equalizes you will end up spending the same percentage of your income as you paid before wages were artificially raised.

I'll betcha just an announcement that we're going to start drillin at home...would drop the price, like a cheerleaders pants at a frat party.

I just announced it to my neighborhood.  Nothing yet :dunno:

because to sit back and dream and hope the price of oil to go down.. is soooo farfetched, that i dont plan on seeing that happening in my lifetime.

That doesn't work either.  That money has to come from somewhere.  The companies that are forced to raise their employee's wages with either lay off employees, or raise the prices of their goods and/or services.

If we were to start to bluid one coal to oil plant , I bet that would bring down the price by $50 in a few days.

Cheapest gas I saw today was $4 a gallon   Luckily I'm riding the bike a lot more now, only driving the truck when I really need to or when I go hiking, but I'm paying for that gas with my economic stimulas check so in my eyes I'm really only paying for gas when I fill the bike about 2 times every 3 weeks.

I read or heard recently, as I said before, that it's expected that oil will drop to $60 some time this summer or within the next year.  That would help, but they also said that drop may not be reflected in the price of oil for some time, or maybe never.

They've been blocking any and everything for the last 30 years (I wonder why people call them un-American?). Given the green light to drill or convert coal to gas tomorrow, it would take several years to get it online...but the prospect of greater supply would have an immediate effect.

I finally got my truck back on the road over the last couple of days, and I need to get some gas in the morning. I checked my usual station on the way home :jawdrop:

The last time I got fuel in the truck was for the Tin Bender's Jamboree last month, and it was $3.64. It is now $4.11 :shocking: That is nearly a 50 cent increase over the past three weeks????

I have not had to get gas for a while, so I've not really paid much attention.....  What the HELL is going on, seriously, how much more of this :thud:

you are entirely wrong about that...paying people more for  doing the same job doesn't fix things, it hurts usmore.  look at oakland CA with it's 8or 9 dollar per hour min wage.  morons an McDs making 8 per hour.

what needs to happen to fix our inflation rate is the government to STOP printing/coining money and pay down our deficit, thus raising the value of the dollar in the world market.

I still say we stop spending so much money on countries that don't want us there, and while we're at it, why not call in all of our debts owed to us by many different countries that we've loaned money to?  I'm betting if we even hinted that we might call in our debts, America would suddenly become a lot more popular on the world scale, our dollar value would go up, oil would come down, smaller nation dissidents would stop running their mouths, everyone would be trying to make us happy, because if we truly called in our debts, we could bankrupt small nations.

China needs to lose people, bad.  Not to sound mean, but they have a monstrous population and it grows quickly.  Just like that old dude who comes on late at night, talking about saving the children in some 3rd world country and says something like "30,000 children died last night alone, won't you help?".  Yes, I'll send money to *fix* all the young men and women so they're population doesn't grow so fast they can't support it!  Nature tries to keep things in check, but we keep screwing it up by *helping*  :shake:

Well remember, effects made today on population control won't really be noticed for another 20 years after the current surge of baby boomers have passed their fertility expiration date.

I once read somewhere, I think in a J. Richard Gott book, that scientists have estimated the earth's human carrying capacity to be around 12 billion. We are probably somewhere around 6-1/2 billion right now, so imagine that the world is about at 55% capacity now (remember there are a lot of uninhabited livable areas), so once it reaches near 12 billion, the population would either start killing themselves (territorial or survival of the fittest comes to mind) or you would reach a point where the earth cannot produce enough food and water to feed more than 12 billion people, and people would starve. Either way the population should be self regulated at this point.

Imagine doubling the world population.

I know this is a way off topic, but from a Biblical stand point, Heaven will be right here on good old earth. I don't have my notes from church with me, but I remember its size is clearly defined as being about the square mileage of about 1/4 of California - but it is also as tall as it is wide, so its going to be a h------UGE city. The bible also says that Satan will rally up all the people throughout the history of mankind (I believe this is around 7,000 years) who do not have God in their hearts to attack the city. The bible says that the amount of these people will be the same as the amount of grains of sand in the ocean. :shocking: So that must be more than 12 billion, I mean think about for a minute how many people have been born in the past 7,000 years (again, I believe the universe and everything in it is somewhere around 7,000 yrs old). I can't even imagine that. I have no idea how to quantify that. But that is a grip load of people all on this planet so that certainly makes China look like a drop in the bucket

Less than 2 years ago this thread was started and it was scary that gas was going to hit $2.00 a gallon. It is now about to break the $4.00 mark that is a 100% gain. Ask yourself what is wrong with this picture? I don't think inflation has jumped 100% in this time and the price of gas figures into inflation, how many times do we allow them to butt rape us. :moon:

They really need to make the oil industry as answerable as the others, even natural gas, electricity and water hasn't been able to jump us like that. Why is this you ask? Because they are heavily regulated by the government.
