I never said I didn't believe in supply and demand.  Just that supply and demand only works when people have reasonable alternatives.  What choices do people have?  Nothing reasonable.

If movie tickets cost $25 each less people go to the movies and they find alternatives.

If gas cost $4 a gallon people suck it up and cut back elsewhere.  They still need to get to work.

I think many have themselves to blame.  In California people have moved out of the city and commute.  Well, now add the cost of you commute and you have to ask yourself if it is worth it when gas cost $4 a gallon or more.  And we as the voting public haven't pushed hard enough for public transit.  Many cities and other countries laid the foundation decades or a century ago and are reaping the benefits.  If I could ride a subway I would.  I like driving my 4runner, but sitting in traffic is no fun no matter what car you have.  I'd rather save the 4runner and the gas money for road trips and recreation.

I disagree...Supply and demand works whether you have alternatives or not...oil didn't get expensive just last week. I repeat oil demand has skyrocketed in the last few years. Oil production hasn't risen as fast. Another thing is the dollar is at historic lows on the world market. Just like oil, currencies are commodities subject to supply and demand. So, for example, instead of paying for imports with 100 cent dollars we are in effect paying for imports with 80 cent dollars. Also, I'm not sure the refinery that went off line a few months ago is back online.

I promise you...if the North Dakota fields magically began producing tomorrow the price of oil would fall faster than a coed's pants during spring break. That field has an estimated 200 billion (B) barrels of oil...in comparison the Ghawar oil field in Saudi has brought out so far 60.1 billion barrels with estimated reserves at 70 billion more barrels. The Ghawar field has been producing about 65% of the Saudi output since...1948. So, you can imagine how long the North Dakota fields will last. The oil estimates for ANWR range from 5.7 to 16 billion barrels. The estimate for offshore oil production in the US is 86 billion barrels. We are also talking about trillions (T) of cubic feet of natural gas. Again, it is the enviro-nazi's that block our access to those fields causing an artificial low supply, which causes the price to be higher than it should be.

Most of the public doesn't want mass transit...or we would have it. Hell, state and federal governments are forcing it down out throats anyway...if we really wanted it, do you think they would hesitate for one minute to waste more of our money?

I've seen Diesel for over $4.50 in washington.  I am very serious now about converting to veggie fuel this summer.  There's now way we're driving down to colorado to visit the in-laws towing a trailer with 2 rigs getting 10-14 mpg and paying $4.50+ for diesel.  Even if I have to buy brand new veggie oil at costco it has to be cheaper than buying diesel at $4.50+ a gallon in washington.

You can steal my idea of getting oil from kfc   Everybody always says bio/wvo smells like fries when it's burning, so I'd rather have it smell like fried chicken!  Ofcourse, this does me no good without a diesel yet though...

Are you gonna get one of those tank/pump units that goes in the back of a bed?  It'd be kinda funny to see you pull into a service station, pull into a parking spot, fill your tank with your own pump and get back on the road!

Yes and the demand won't change.  People will still buy gas at a similar rate because they need it to get to work.

That is not a supply and demand concept.  Just because the price drops doesn't mean we need it less or there is more or less demand.  Not related because there is no alternative.

The only problem here is that almost all the veggie oil is spoken for since I live in a farming community.  Thats why I am looking to possibly buy new vege oil in bulk.  For now I am trying to just ride my 07 R6 as much as I can and will get the conversion done asap.  Even if I have to spend 1200-1500 to do the conversion it will pay for itself very shortly.

yup, $3.79 lastnight, and $3.83 today,

Im sure it will easily reach $5.00 by this summer at this rate  :smack:

46&2

Paid $3.79 today for regular unleaded.

I was just working out in Phoenix this last weekend. I was talking to my boss about fuel prices and to get our only semi from Grass Valley CA to Phoenix AZ and back cost him $1600 in diesel. That doesnt include our 4 box trucks and 2 super dutys that made the journey as well. He was really cringing at that point so I dropped the subject....

What happens when the trucking industry collapses?

My motor likes the 91 octane unfortunately. Luckily its not my main source of transportation, but it is getting really expensive to fill up two 5gal gas cans and the 14gal tank to go hit the trail for a few days.

This article expains the causes of higher oil prices...is it coincidence that it's exactly what I've been saying?

x2.  I never thought I'd love riding a bike so much.  I will say though that doesn't go without saying that you have to watch at so much for the other drivers on the road.  Buddy of mine just T-Boned a car that pulled out on him a couple weeks ago.  Thankfully he only walked away with a broken arm (surgery though).  It could've been a lot worse.  To make it worse it actually happened right in front of my wife and my mom was in town visiting.  Needless to say that don't like me riding my bike but I feel that the accident could've been avoided with better riding on his part.

You can improve performance by advancing the timing...at the price of needing higher octane to stop detonation. You can probably back off the timing enough to run regular. I know it's not scientific or precise, but I set my timing by ear. I advance it until it starts pinging then back it off a tad...and my compression ratio is about 11:1.

:yesnod:  everybody's out to get you!  They'll (read: women) will look RIGHT AT YOU, then pull out right in front of you anyway.  I make very sure to let drivers know they screwed up, even if it means slowing back to let them catch up.  Rarely does a finger get used, but I'll either tap two fingers on my visor where my eyes are then point back at them, tap my head as if saying "THINK!", or in the case of the pathfinder that slowly pulled out into the right lane, then started halfway into my lane just as I got there I'll honk (I honk every time though), shake open palm out in front of me and yell "what the flop!?".  I rarely yell, but I don't regret it either!  I guarentee my speed and timing were on well enough for them to hear me, so hopefully it sunk in.

My friend is using bio diesel and he says it averages out to be $0.88 / gallon.

88 cents per gallon. I know it won't be long until the world movers get a grip on this also.
