Ok, so I went to DMV this morning and told the lady I wanted to green sticker the Migo.  She says that that's not possible.  So I asked her to study up on it and find out because I KNOW it's possible.  She sits me down after about ten minutes of talkin bout it, and goes to her supervisor.

She calls me up about 20 mins later and says it's illegal for a vehicle that has once been registered as an on highway vehicle to be registered as an off road vehicle only :shake: I told her no, I know of many rigs that are registered for off highway only because you can't register for on highway if it doesn't pass inspection and smog.  I argued with her and started to get really ticked off when she said "The best I can do is issue you a one month street operating permit".

:woohoo: I bit my tongue, got my permit and walked out.  I'm glad I got my street permit, now I can smog it and maybe get another year of street registration.   Anyone else have this problem?

I am sooooooooo glad I don't live in Cali, it always sound like you guys have a much harder time with any vehicle related issues.
All I can say is stay in contact with your representatives and vote for candidates that have had enough. It shouldn't be a chore just to live somewhere.

Why would you want a green sticker if you can get it registered for the street? Sure when you make your old truck into a buggy and remove any smog equipment you'd need a green sticker but as long as you can get registration take it. It may not be 100% street legal and you'd get a ticket driving on the street but as long as they'll pass it at a smog shop I'd get the plate.

I haven't got the cash to smog it or finish the registration (she had told me in the beginning I needed $60 more to finish the reg before I could get a tag).  I figured if I can get a one month extension I'd be able to smog it and register it.  I had to do SOMETHING so that I could take it to the roundup.  She wouldn't give me a tag till after the whole hassle.  So I was go green... and even that didn't work.  I ended up getting my way with the tag, but my concern is why is she so insistant that it's illegal? I wanna know how other green sticker folk have done it.

:shhh: :psss: I continued to get a tempory sticker for over a year on my Camry, just kept saying I was driving it to the mechanic since he had no room to work on it. Sometimes they turn you down one day and you go back the next day and you get one.  :gap:

ya, they turned me down yesterday to get a smog extension tag.  I'm paid up registration wise, but I haven't done smog yet, so no tag.  :headshake:  lady said I had to fail smog before they'd give me one.

its not so much the law that sucks, its all the red tape trying to get it right.....

its the people @ dmv, some of them are hella cool and know their stuff, others are former drill sargeants who know everything  :smoke:.....

somehow, when i was going through all the red tape to get my truck going as a salvage title and had been through like 3 temp tags, i always ended up with the same gal, and she was really cool, i said yeah i didnt have time to do it yet, and she was like ok, let me go get you a new tag.......

Yeah, when I went to green sticker mine the lady told me that it was a bit tricky, but no problem.Paid my $25 and done...I've heard of LOTS of people who say the DMV says it's impossible.I think those are the people that have never heard of it and don't know how to go about doing it,so they tell you it's immposible...IT'S POSSIBLE  .

I think they are confusing going from green to street, now that's tricky. Those at the DMV that know what's going on realize this. I've heard where a DMV employee warned someone that wanted to change their vehicles status to a green sticker that you may want to think about it before doing this because it is very difficult to convert back.

Out here in Cali, a green sticker is an off road only registration for some types of vehicles.  Don't have to worry about smog, but you can't drive it on the street.

took very little time to green sticker  my old toyota.. basicly i told the guy to shut up and do it and that he is wrong and im right..  he got up and went and talked to his supervisor  came back said sorry and got on it.. payed my fee  got my sticker and i was out..  he tried to argue that a toyota was not a jeep nor a atv..  had to explain that a jeep is a passenger vehicle and so is a toyota..  dumbasses

Just to add my  :twocents:

I had the exact same problem, I had to go into DMV about 5 times and talk to every "supervisor" in there until THEY finally did some research and got it green tagged. They said the exact same thing "its impossible to do blah blah blah"  So eventually they did a dual registration.. one was a non-op and the other was entered in as a Quad  ???

anyways.. So they send me this bill for likt $60 for the non-op and I went in there and asked them why I was getting this bill 3 weeks later after I had JUST registered it as offroad only and paid all the dues on it... well then the lady tells me that I dont need a dual registration and starts blaming this whole mess on me, p*ssed me off and I told her that every single time I come into this place someone tells me something different so i'm under the impression that no one in this entire place knows WTF they're doing.. she didn't have much to say and just told me that she took the dual registration off and that it's offroad only now.. thats it... havn't been there since but it took close to 2-3 weeks of persistance to FINALLY get it green tagged... what PITA!

According to people I know that I've talked to, and to the DMV that green stickered BLINGN's Jeep, it is not possible to go from green to street.  That is why they make you sign the statement of facts, stating that you won't drive it on the street.

i think it is possible to go back but he has to have an inspection by the man.  and i don't think that the blingn mobile is going to pass inspection

jimbo74

i am not 100% sure if it is possible, but wouldnt it fall under the same classification as a kit car? kit cars are street legal with the proper paperwork

Naw, ya think? :shake:  :hammer:

The problem isn't with the JEEP.. it's ALREADY green stickered and STAYING that way.

The problem WAS with the AMIGO, and I got a temporary tag for it till I can get it to smog.
