CV driveshaft rebuild
« on: Aug 29, 2006, 06:51:01 PM »
I had to put some new ujoints in a 85 CV front driveshaft and ran into a wall. The CV will not go back together correctly, it seems that the pin that fits into the ball is to long as it won't go in far enough for the CV to straighten out.

Do they have different ujoints? I have 2 neapco #15800

 Any suggestions?

inside the ball, where that pin goes  is little needle bearings  like in a u joint cap,  you probably need a new ball and seat, or at least  check and use grease to hold them out against the ball wall

I made sure to keep the bearings in place. It looks like the end of the pin is bottoming out in the ball but it was fine before the ujoint replacement.

It is a pain in the ass to get it right, are you sure there's nothing down there?  It took me like an hour and a half last time...

I am gonna look again tommorow but I didn't see any thing in it. It would turn in circles smoothly but would not straighten out.

Got it fixed  :) It seems that the disc in the bottom of the ball that the spring rests on got flipped over. It took me a while to finally see that the bottom of the ball was not solid.

 Thanks for the suggestions!
