BTW the dyno picture was with the 4.3 in it.  I will post a video of the Dyno Run.  The headers were GLOWING Red.

Not willing to say what?  That I'm putting in a 6.0L or the air bumps.

About the 6.0. Apparently I was right. Do I win a beer? :beerchug:

gotrocks

Sure.  I don't drink but I'll send you a cyber

The specs on the motor are:
2001 GMC Gen III 6.0L LQ4
20,000 miles
364 Cu in
300 HP
360 tq

compared to
1998 Chevy Vortec 4.3 Chevy Blazer
80,000 rebuilt with 100 miles
229 Cu In
190 HP
240 TQ

The plan in to do a custom tune on LQ4 and get around 350-375+ flywheel HP.  I'm going to be using HP Tuners along with a LS6 intake and 98 Corvette Z06 fuel rails and injectors.  If money allows I'd love to do a cam and get around 350 WHEEL HP.

I had wanted to buy an aluminum LS1 or LS6 but the price didn't exactly fit into the budget.  Also the reason I ended up going with the LQ4 motor is because after some research I found out that the aluminum LSX series motors were cracking between cyl. 5 and 7 with abusive off road use, and the LQ4 motor has the same technology as the aluminum LSX motors. Its just cheaper and weighs a little more.

Thanks guys.  This should be a fun mod to the buggy.  I'm really excited.  My goal is to have it running before thanksgiving.  I have A LOT of work to do but I think its doable.  There will be a bit of work to the front end to make the engine fit properly and not hit anything.  The v6 setup had the axle missing my pulley by no more than an inch.  So I have to move my front axle forwards about 3.5".  The accessory package is shorter on the Gen III engines so thankfully I don't have to move it 4.5 inches or more.  I should still have a w/b under 112".  I don't want it to be any longer than that.

gotrocks

Update time.

Uncut and unmodified.  But not for long.

My buddy cutting off the stinger.  It had taken some good beatings and needed to be replaced anyway.

Where did that engine go.

Waiting to run again

gotrocks

Cut and ready for the engine

Getting all mocked up and ready for motor mounts.

Its bolted up to the transmission and setting on a jack stand in position.

The oil pan is to deep and I'm going to have to change over to a LS1 oilpan from a Camaro.  It sticks down 2.5" lower than the 4.3 oil pan.

Clearance issues before we moved the axle forward.

Motor mounts made.  I'm going to be changing it around a bit because i want more up travel and these will hit the links because I"m doing a suspension change too.

gotrocks

After we moved the axle forward about 3.5" or so.

Lastly some teaser shots of the hood and grill mocked up.  Along with cutting 9" out of the grill.

I'm probably going to rake the grill and hide the winch behind it.  It should give a nice sleeper look.

My goal is to be able to do 90+ MPH and have around 300+ HP at the tires.

THK Matt

you can easily do that.

I just went over his build quickly

You get this thing done for your trip?

No, decided to concentrate on finishing the quarter and not fail.  LOL  But I'm going to be knocking out A LOT of work here in the next month or so.  I have 2 rigs lined up behind mine and stretching my trailer for our Moab Trip for Spring Break.  The front tube work is almost all done so it shouldn't be to long now before its running.

I can't wait to here this thing either.  Its going to sound mean.  If any of you have heard Shannon Campbell's rig, that is the sound I'm shooting for.  I need to find out what muffler he's running.  I just hope it isn't to loud.  His ls1 sound extremely sick.

(For those who don't know what it sounds like)

Just to let you know shayne Kelert and I are planning on coming down for the round-up this year.  His brother might come down as well with his FJ-40.  We'll have to see because I will just start working at a new job and I don't know if I can get the time off but I am going to try.

it looks like he is running straight headers into a collector.

I also taught him how to put in 5min of hard work and then spend 15min staring and admiring what you have done...

The collector is a muffler of some sort.  Its very similar to drag boat setups. My neighbor has an exhaust like that on his boat and it sounds really mean especially with his supercharger.  800 dyno proven HP:eyebrow:

I wouldn't anticipate that an LS1 would sound anything like an LQ4 even with essentially identical setups.

The LQ4 is at the bottom end of the big block family which means it is designed to perform differently than an LS1 (that is a fairly high rpm V8).  Also, the LS1 family (LS1, LS2, LS6, LS7, etc.) were designed from scratch and I suspect the LQ4 design is based on older block design.  Because of this the LS1 is a very different engine than an older 350 that is similar displacement and even the previous generation LT1.

Big blocks and small blocks have always had different sounds and engines of different "architectural" designs (i.e. Ford, Chevy, Dodge) also have different sounds.

I'm positive that your engine will sound excellent, but I'll be surprised if it sounds and smooth or gets that high pitch.  Take a look at www.corsaperf.com and listen to some of the Corvette sounds and you'll hear the tone you like in Shannon's rig.
