worst case scenario you could purchase the internal parts of the door from a newer truck thats the same body style at a junk yard.

If you are going to use it, yes, SAS it. If you arent going to be hardcore wheeling it I would say its going to be a lot of money down the drain (its not cheap!!). Sorry to hear about the pneumonia, that :pokinit: aint fun

it sucks havin pneumonia, hope u get to feelin better  .

you have 3 options for doing a solid axle swap with your truck, not really difficult and can be done for cheap.
1st option-see if you can find a ford f250 or f350 with a solid front axle, years 77-79 is best because the spring mounts line up but other years will work. this option will be the most expensive but allows you  to keep your stock transfercase (driver side drop on the front driveshaft).

2nd option-find a 73-88 gm pickup or 73-92 suburban/blazer. you will need the front axle, driveshaft, and the transfercase. the spring mounts on these trucks are removeable, but expect them to be stuck in place. 1/2, 3/4, or 1 ton. most likely option because these trucks are very cheap and easy to find. you will need to order a set of flat top steering arms.

3rd option-find a m1008, m1009, m1028, m1028a military vehicles. with the exception of the m1009 these are basicly 1 ton pickups from gm (80's body style). these usually sell for 1,000-1,500 bucks from military surplus places or government auctions, but that 1 ton running gear is damn near bulletproof. same steering arms as above.

if your not afraid of a drive i know of 9 gm trucks/suburbans here in northern utah, in running condition, for 600 bucks or less. not to mention alot of them at junkyards. when you do the sas you will get roughly 3" of lift just from a set of stock solid axle leaf springs.

by the way, if you grab either a 3/4 or 1 ton truck/suburban, pull the rear axle as well. the 3/4 ton's have the 14 bolt 9.5" semifloater rear axle, significantly stronger than your 1/2 ton 10 bolt rear axle. this axle comes with either 6 lug (what your current vehicle has) or 8 lug. the 1 ton has the 14 bolt 10.5" full floater, you wont have to worry about breaking that axle. the front axle on the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton trucks/suv's is the gm 10 bolt which really gets a bad wrap. 35" tires is about the max it can take with a locker, i would recommend bringing an extra set of manual locking hubs and axle shafts if you go with this axle. its an extremely easy axle to tear down, EASY to come across, and CHEAP. you can get a working axle complete hub to hub for 150 at the highest, expect free-100.
