"Easyline" Runner build
« on: Jul 13, 2006, 01:02:17 PM »
Well, here it is. I didn't take very many pictures during the build of this runner, but I don't think there is much if anything different with this rig than most. So here is how its setting now.

There is a few things that will stand out about this rig... first being the leafs. They are 8inch alcans, yes I relize now that these aren't the best set up for rocks. I had purchased these before I got hooked on crawling and I payed to much to ditch them. Instead I adapted for 'em since they do flex good. The springs were custom made for a pickup hence the 4 inch drop block. And the 8.5 inch shackles still needs some modifications, but they work good for now.

I also have plans of mounting a custom bump stop to the drop block extensionsfor practical reasons and also to prevent the extream arch on these springs from pulling back together once the shackle angle moves past parallel with the frame.

I had the guys at alcan move the front front axle forward 2 inches via pin location on the spings. The front shock mounts were easy once rudy and shane got tired of creasing tube with the bender. I like how they turned out though, its a different look.

I am not sure yet if it was a good idea to weld the shock hoops to the IFS box plate, I may regret it in the future but I dont think it will be hurting anything.

I spun the rear leafs 180* to get better flex and a greater wheel base. This gave me 8 more inches of wheel base and allowed me to fit my dual cases with very little extension of the drive shaft. However I did have to do some fab work to the rear quarter pannels.

Here is a look from the inside, we had to put out fires in here the every 30 seconds...that sucked.

Was there a reason for doing the front shock towers like that? or just trying something different.

Nice 4runner though, you gonna take it to the marlin roundup?

Yes and yes. I should be driving it by the end of the month, no where near finished but still trail ready enough.

Because of the huge arch in these springs and the relocation of the front axle forward 2inches, the axle traves along way back as the sping flattens out. The angle of the shocks is to relieve the pressure on the shocks as they compress. The arch doesn't allow for as much down travel so that was less of a concern. The looks are a plus, to me atleast.

Things that ELV hasn't mentioned on his rig.

This truck has dual 2.28's, 5.29 gears. Locked front and rear and 30 spline longs in the front.

Its plenty low, for now.......... whoever made those shock hoops must have been drunk.......oh wait........................................................ :talkingn: :beerwhack:

Glad to see you posted up some progress pics ELV, Can't wait to see this thing in action.

So this weekend I think I am goingto be putting some work in on the square d-shaft for the front and the half doors.

I don't like the way I cut them originally any more, their easier this way, but I doubt they will make a comfortable arm rest.

So what are you going to do? start over again or integrate an arm rest like Marlins truck?

Well, I am thinking of using lines similar to yours. I dont know if I am gonna want a tube arm rest though, I will likely try it one way and then make adjustments.

Looks sweet  i like what you did to rear fender i plan on doing the same thing to my runner but i only have about 5" to plate (bobbed 13") and i think i will trim the tailgate to match (i don't have a rear window). I have 7" alcans with the front pin moved forword 3" and they flex like crazy but i need to do something with my stock battery box because my 37" mtr rub on it. keep up the good work :beerchug:

Thanks bud. 3inches forward, man did you have as much trouble mounting your IFS box as I did? I almost had to inboard the body mount. If you have any pics I sure would like to see how your front end is set up.

I still have some more work to do on the the quarter pannels... seal, bondo, and paint the trim. It should come out clean, we will see though. Only having about 5inches will save you alot of time, I bet is goona look sick being bodded too

Just re-gear the axles, lockers, some sort of high steer (will have to get with curtis on this) and some new shoes for it. But I also just picked up a quad that needs a little work. Too many projects so little time. Gotta do most of this before October when the little one will be born.
