Today I had a lot of nothing to do so I decided to make something out of that old Junkerai bumper I had sitting around.  If you own one and put bigger tires on you find out fast that the front bumper mounts get in the way so yo must cut them off making the bumper unusable. Plus the bumper itself is to big and in the way so I decided to mess with it and toss it if things didn't work as planned. Well it did work out and here's the result.  I first cut the ends off so the tires would not hit when turned to lock and then cut it in two. Then I sectioned each side so that the turn signal housings were still usable which is the main reason I did this in the first place. Next I pieced them back together with some flat screws and relocated the mount points. I then reinstalled the side covers and also attached them with some flat screws.  As I stood there I thought definitely looks different but there is nothing in front of my tires to get in the way anymore.  Remember that this is Operation Junkerai and most of my parts will be someones resurrected junk.

Unfortunately my house was flooded last week and the next few days I will be moving out temporarily since we need to rip out everything including the drywall.  We had a mold test done and they consider the house currently uninhabitable so work now shifts to moving out.

Oh I also tossed those hooks I made for the skidpan and replaced them with cut down Ubolts I had from the rear. That was not going to work, 1st rock it hit would have knocked it completely off.

RS, is it legal to have the blinker lights mounted so close together? Seems to me like there might be a minimum distance required by law? :dunno: Otherwise, lookin good!

Actually 1/3 of the lens on the inside is running lights the outside 2/3's is the turn signal. I messured the turn signals on my Focus and it is almost the same.

I had a similar idea for a mini bumper on my old Sami. :)

I'm sorry I don't know that much about Samis. It looks really simple and functional. Is it just one piece of steel welded/bolted on? There's an idea for ya RS

I did almost the same thing you did on my other Sammi, used some 2x4 square tube and it looked cool. It was extended to accomodate my missing links and putting the rears up front which is what I am eventually going to do again since doing that gave me almost 2 inches more wb and a Sammi can use every inch you can give to it. This little bumper is just so I'm legal until I get the time to do everything I want to it. I like your turn signals and will probably use those or something similar once I really get into it. Last time I cut a portion of the grill an mounted the oem's there, this time I don't want to cut the grill so I'm going to do it a little different. When I put some rears on the front it will move the axle about an inch forward and then I'll get some stock CJ7 springs for the rear which moves the rear axle back about an inch and will add missing links to both the front and rear.

well, ive never actually wheeled with any samis. Everyone around missoura drives ferds and chebbies    It would be cool if you could inset some lights in or on top of the bumper itself. I do like Shoyrtt's lights. cool :pokinit:

With all the crap that happened last week it bit hard into my development on the Sammi, plus it kinda got buried under all my house furniture and stuff, but the garage is now cleared and I'm ready to get back at it. Well as soon as I'm off again.

Well except for having an empty gas tank it can be wheeled as it sits right now, of course it would ride better with rear shocks on it. All the junk I have are additives that will just make it better. I do have to get some tow shackles on the front so I can drag that puppy behind the motorhome. I'm sure my parts box will be getting thinner by Sept. You'll just have to keep an eye on this thread to see what I throw on it next.

My build will never even come close in comparison but I have friends in the midst of building a couple Sammi's right now that want to turn mine into something I would like better since my biggest issue is wb. Our fabricator extraordinare is currently doing his 6 weeks in the guard but he owes me some work and I just don't know what I wanna do yet. Here's 2 of his current projects......

The 1st one he stretched the rear and the gray one perched on his old truck he stretched the front end, I kinda like the front stretch myself almost can't even see it.

Well I got a little more done today, I now have a CB antenna and ran the wire and will get a CB to put in there. I also now have rear shocks, welded in the tabs on the axle housing and viola no more bouncy Samurai. I then took it out in the back yard and took some poser shots on my rock and in the kids BMX track they made. Yup I violated their little track with my Sammi, I was able to stay on the track though since my wb is not much longer than the bikes.
