Friends 82 pickup, to part or sell as a whole?
« on: May 28, 2006, 09:49:06 PM »
Okay, my friend has an 82' 4x4 pickup, longbed.  He's selling it because he prefers his Jeep and the thing overheated (the pickup).  Needs at least a radiator, maybe more.  He says he may have warped some stuff when it overheated "due to those !@#^@ aluminum parts," but I've heard they may not be aluminum, hence still good.  Not sure.

He called me a while ago wanting me to post it up for sale at $800 on various web-sites (he's not very techno-savy).  I told him I'd be there tomorrow for pictures, but I'd look into the possability of parting it for more.  From what I can tell, almost anything will sell if it's cheap enough, but I've gotta ask...

In everyone's opinion, do you think there's more money in parting it or selling as a whole?

-1982 Longbed
-4x4 Toy pickup
-Complete, intact.
-Body is pretty rough, but intact.
-Bed was cut, not shortened, but the height was shortened (make sense?)
-Ran until it overheated.
-Don't think it's an SR5.

It's pretty much stock, except he's got some shackle's on it.  He's got 32's too, but they're almost gone.

I know he can get ~$350 for the axles, ~$100 for the t-case, and that's already half way there.  Just wonderin' if there's enough money here to make it worth while, if it's more profitable than selling as a whole.

Much appreciated to any responses.

Oh, he lives in Clovis and I live in Fresno.

:worthless: pictures always help  What happened when it over-heated? I drove mine for a loooooong time after over-heating many times (don't ask...lots of mud and other things) Things are friggin tough man! But not as tough as a heep. hehehe I think you could make more parting it out but it really needs a second life as a rockcrawler. Maybe you should buy it and build a rockcrawler to kick your buddy's ass in the heep. Just an idea

I'd be interested in the tranny if it's a 5 speed and in good working order. :wink2:

Guys, we're not selling it, parts or as a whole, yet.  When we do I'll put up a post in the parts section.  This thread is meant for advice, we need to know which route to go.  Pieces or as one.

I'll be taking pictures in a couple hours, and wil post tonight.  To be honest they'll probably turn most of you away.

Again, we're not selling yet and I wish to adhere to the forum rules.  When we sell I'll post up in the parts section.

We want advice atm.

Thank you....

Well, to be honest with you, parting/selling whole can go both ways.

I've parted a few full size jeeps and ended up making my money back 3 fold. Then again I had Jeeps sitting in the yard that I couldn't give parts away. Ended up torching the body's and sending to the iron yard.

Best of luck to ya...

If you have the time and patience to deal with handling all the pieces you intend to sell and deal with all the Joes out there part it out. If the truck is is a nice unit with a good frame sell it as a hole and give that toy a chance at another life
