Need to sell one - 92 Pickup vs 85 BJ70
« on: Nov 24, 2009, 03:36:09 PM »
Okay, so I got this 92 3rd gen truck (reg cab), which is completely stock, no rust.  I was planning on building it up a bit with a SAS, but then I went and found a 85 BJ70 which is/was my dream truck.  It needs rust repair, but the drivetrain is good... it probably needs $1200 just in body panels.

When I look on this forum, I think maybe the truck is the way to go.  It looks like the toyota trucks can be built to easily perform better than a SWB land cruiser.  Plus I don't have to worry about rust repair.  But on the other hand, the BJ70 is already lifted, solid front axle, and solid drivetrain.

I'm a little worried about performance with the truck once I throw some big tires and gears on... whereas the 3B diesel can be turboed if I get desperate for performance.

These are daily drivers for me.  They both get similar fuel mileage.  The truck zips around better than the BJ70 because of the gas engine and is smooth and quiet.

I would keep the 70 just because they're harder to find. You can always find another pickup. Are you here in the States or up north in Canada?

haha  :)  Thanks for the advice!  I'm located up in Canada... so the rust is a pain, especially knowing it'll probably never go away no matter how closely I watch it!

The Pickup looks clean and is probably a better DD. The 70 is cool but driving that thing every day all rusty and junk will get old fast. I think it is best, and I know everybody will agree, keep them both.  There problem solved, anything else?

the truck has easy to find parts that are cheap because everyone and their mother has one.

the BJ has most likely more expensive parts but has certain cool factor that the truck will never have.

I vote BJ, cause I love BJ's.

Some parts are a little more expensive.  It's not a huge deal though.  The BJ has the advantage of having almost no electronics.

I'm still unsure as to what to do... ???  I think I'll just keep both for as long as I can until I clearly get sick of one of them.  The truck is testing my patience right now with some weird idle issues.

I'm in the process of replacing the clutch master cylinder on the BJ70.  Gotta get it back on the road some I can remember what it's like driving it!  It's also a little big like comparing apples to oranges right now as the truck is stock, and the BJ70 isn't.
