Capt'n: Scotty, we Need More POWER!
Scotty: Capt'n I'm givin' 'er all she's GOT!

The Mammoth build has been put on hold for a short time while Mark gets the Banks power upgrade stuff he got for the LBC installed and we see what this baby can really do!

For those that don't know, the LBC is the Lanthierian Battle Cruiser, our tow rig till we can get in a full size truck again, and our home away from home.

It's a 1992 31' Monaco Dynasty with a Cummins diesel pusher engine.

I don't know the details, he will have to fill you in on that, I'm just here to kick this thread off and post some pics till he can get in here. :snapshot: (he's off on a call right now).

Here are the Banks parts, all $1400 worth!  :hammerhead:

But like you said, Ryan, if it makes it go up the hills better it is all worth it

Man.  It looks like it sucks to work on that engine.  Gotta lay down on the floor of the LBC and reach in, huh?

The new parts should motivate that old cummins to MOVE!!!!  Turn up the pump a little, add some manifold pressure, and watch the smoke!  Let us all know how it goes  :driving:

Ryan, it's worse then that, he's got to lean over the bed platform to get in there or actually climb into the engine compartment.  :hammerhead:
He had started to do some work on it this morning but then he got a call and had to run off. :burnout:
I can't wait to see what it does. :hyper:

Hang from my ankles is more like it.

So far I am not impressed! I almost didn't get the turbo back on cause the new waste gate is hitting the block. I finally got it back on and now I can't get to the back nut cause the wastegate bracket blocks the only path I had to get it loose.

I will have to pull the exhaust manifold back off to get to it.  :tantrum:

I also do not see any differences in the housing they supplied and the one that I had on there.

I better see a sizeable increase in boost.

The cam plate will prove to be a pain too I am sure.

For $1400 bucks they should have installed it too.  :yesnod:

Well, as usual, MrW found a way around having to pull it all about again.
His exclusively modified, one of a kind, Chevette starter wrench...

OMG!! I found out what that scary thing under the bed is... A Willy Mammoth    :yikes:  !

:haha:

And when he said he had to hang from his heels to get any work done, he wasn't lying!

Mrs Willy-  This is a family oriented site, and the positions that Mark and that engine are in, well, they're just not family oriented.

That doesn't look like ANY fun at all.  How the hell does a wrench on a string work, anyway?  How are you going to run the wires for the pyrometer all the way up to the instrument cluster without screwing with the resistance spec?  I thought the pyro's were dependent on a resistance value to work correctly??

What are the claimed HP/Torque gains with the banks goodies?

HP is advertised at 70-73 and torque is advertised at 75-171 for the stinger kit.

The power pack kit advertised 88-105 HP and 94-214 torque, but at $2100. instead of $1400.

The kit comes with a special length of cable that they tell you not to cut. The pyro sensor is nothing more than a thermo couple which generates a charge of electricity when heated. The more heat, the more the charge.

It would be a lot easier to install in your truck. :tantrum:

As far as the trans is concerned, I don't plan on pushing it and I think it should hold up if I am nice to it.

Sweet.  I knew the told you not to cut those for a reason...  I cut the one in the Supra, and it's never read quite right.   :smack:  I installed a new cable recently, and it's been much better...

The extra power should motivate things better for sure.  Is your LBC intercooled?  In the pics it looks like it might be, but it's hard to tell what plumbing goes where.   The cam plate is gonna be fun for sure.

:psss: The wrench on the string works just like any other wrench but really short to fit in a tight space, and the string is to keep from dropping it.

I knew exactly why the wrench was shorter!  I have about a dozen of various wrenches that have shortened handles or shaved thinner to fit in very tight spots!  But I will have to go and drill holes in the handles, Willy is a smart man!

Yea, I am still getting 25 psi and now it blows smoke all the time, but I can't feel a difference.

I saw that the turbo had a compressor housing that seem to be bushed down to a smaller size. I wonder if I need a bigger compressor section to get the boost up before I will get any power increase. What a rip off. I could have done without all the expense and just changed the turbo in the first place and got a cam plate from another co. for less.

I guess I am just another fool supporting a name.

dang mark  that sucks,   i just assumed that was what they did was change the size of the compressor

the  KW  i ran coast to coast in had a fairly small turbo  but the comprssor side was about 12 inches in diameter  but that was a 13.7 liter Detroit 60 series  factory rated to 500hp  but tuned by the detroit company to 600 hp     but 40PSI  was common  in that

your getting 25 psi boost??

:yesnod:   they probably stepped down the compressor so people wouldnt blow there tranny and sue there sorry butts

is the compressor on the old turbo bigger than the compressor on the banks??

It is the same turbo. They supplied an exhauts housing that was suposed to boost quicker.

I need to call them and talk to them about the turbo.

1) injection pump cam plate
1) exhaust housing
1) Pyro meter
1) boost gauge
= $1400. +

Have you put a load on it yet?  Are your EGT's any different?  Sometimes you won't "feel" the power increase until you put it on a hill with a trailer behind it...

You'd think that just the weight of the LBC would be enough to test 'er out though.  I know that when I turbo'ed my old Ford, it didn't seem tons faster until I got it loaded down with the trailer, and hit a hill.  Then the turbo really proved it's worth, as I wasn't doing 45 in third gear, but rather cruising at 65 in 4th  :driving:

I wouldn't think Banks would sell something that doesn't generate power as advertised...

Keep us posted.

Don't know about EGT difference because it didn't have a gauge before. It is running between 700* - 1000* while driving on the hwy at speed.

Yea, I think 28,000 lbs would be a big enough of a load to get to full power especially with 3.54 gears.

The boost gauge also viberates under boost. I will have to check to make sure there are no pressure leaks in the boost side of the intake piping.
