GOING WIDER, rear axle swap
« on: Apr 16, 2006, 06:48:23 PM »
OK, i have a IFS rear axle to swap in. problem is, i like to get all the tools and stuff needed to do this in one shot.

do i need bleed the brakes?
if i do, then i will lengthen the brake lines.
if i lenghten the rear, i'll be doing the front too.
i ordered spacers on ebay for 45 bucks...
and since i'll be bleeding the front brakes, i'll be upgrading them while im at it.
--what year LC rotors do i need?
i'll be buying a torque wrench sometime during this week.

do i need anything else?

1. Yes
2. No, just use the lines that are on the wider axles.
3. Yes, you'll be bleeding the entire system including the LSPV.
4. 1985
5. Good Idea
6. Metric Wrench Set, 12pt socket for the spacers, PB Blaster, Antisieze, Spend the $90 to calibrate your torque wrench.

you dont have to open the front brakes to install spacers.

but yea  i'd install longer  braided lines if you can

No, but he might as well blead them since he is bleeding the rear.

going "vented" you will need V-6 calipers, other than that you may need to grind on the dust cover a little bit. no big deal.

if you don't have "auto" hubs it's not to bad, just do one side at a time. so if you get lost you can check the other side.

the studs just drive right out, leave the nut on about 5 threads so it will not bugger things up.

No, new torque wrenches are +/- 10%, not too big, but big enough when you are torquing something to 250ftlbs, and it only torques 225ftlbs, or even worse, 275ftlbs.
