custom front leaf pack
« on: Apr 05, 2006, 07:01:17 AM »
hey guys, i'm gonna stuff some 38's from my last chevy project under my 4runner. Currently I have a rear pack for the front that has 7 leaves in it, but the lift isn't high enough. I also have an alcan 6" lift front pack. I didn't put the current pack together, and really have no idea what to look for when putting packs together. This runner is getting a 4.3 as soon as I can finish getting headers, and a few misc pieces. I will also have a winch on the front, so, its gonna be pretty front heavy. What tips, tricks, guidelines do I need to follow when building custom packs?

if i were you  i would go get some f150 2wd rear springs ,take the toy rears,  and use the top 2 leaves from the toy rears and stack them  on the f150's
then using a 4inchgrinder and cutting wheel  cut what sticks out past the toy leafs off

then add your 4.3 and winch and should still have room for those 38's

what kind of ride and flex "should" that produce over the mixed toy rears and lifted fronts?

most often  you'll get more flex  out of the toy rears with f150  springs added in  than with  6 inch lift springs

:smack: i just realized you had  alcan 6 inch springs,   with the 4.3 and winch they should become 4 inch springs

lol... it is going forward a bit...
as far as the fenders, I'm getting fiberglass flared fenders.. :hammerhead: :gap: so that won't be a problem area.

you know what, i have 4" rear springs that you can put in the front of your truck, it'll probably net you about 6-7 inches of lift. the stock rear springs usually net about 2.5-3.5 inches of lift.

i put 3" lifted springs in the front that were mixed with stock rears springs.

1st- main 3" lifted front spring
2nd - stock rear 3rd leaf
3rd - stock rear 4th
4th - stock rear main (long side of main leaf cut in half)
5th - stock rear main (short side of main leaf cut in half)

this gave me a super soft ride, i dont have shocks on yet. it flexes better than the rear 4" lift springs. and it gave me about 3.5 inches of lift.

I mixed 6 packs to get 8 leaves in each pack.. surprisingly supple, but we'll see what happens once I get the engine in.
