I put my C.B. on channel 17 (truckers channel) & get traffic report when I'm not on the trail. At least I can try to get off the freeway & take a back road  :twocents:

one person hides and talks about their surroundings as other players home in on them based on geographical hints and using the meter on the CB to determine distance.

No, seriously though it's a lot of fun! Of course, you have to play at night for lots of reasons. We would play in an area about 10-15 square miles give or take. We would play from like dusk till dawn...  :thud:.  I remember some wheeling adventures from time to time too during some games while we looked for the hidden person.... Man, those were fun times.  We had only some minor rules though just so people weren't getting hurt or in trouble... :spankbutt:.  Of course, with gas as high as it is now it would be tough to play all night every weekend like we used to without going broke... :nerv: Oh well, those days are gone.......or are they?

Is there a store I could take my CB too, let them match it with an antenna? Possibly in the Bay Area/Stockton

Clyde's Corner in San Leandro across from Bayfair Mall on E. 14th.  It's been a while since I've been there but they've been there a long time. Hope they're still there.  I usually tune all my own antennas. Not too tough as long as you have SWR meter.  :yesnod:

You can get an ok antenna at Wal-mart or even better drive to the Flying J truck stop in Ripon  :yesnod: There you will find everything you need. You can also get a c.b. radio that has a built in SWR meter & tune ithe antenna that way.

So what's a magnet base average antenna going to cost?

I would stay away from a magnetic mount.

My personal experience.

1st time: I loaned my extra one out to a friend & he had it mounted to the top of his cab. Climbing up a hill & bouncing around it fell off & it got wrapped around his driveshaft (bed was removed)  :smack: & ripped the cable right out of the base  :shake: Also he never replaced it.

2nd time: I had another magnetic mount on the cab of my current 4Runner at Pismo & it fell off 3 times & I would stop & put it back on. The 4th time the rear tire ran it over  :smack: Never again.

Pick a spot & mount it  :twocents:

Go to your local parts house, or stereo store and pick up a firestick for cheap!  But if you really want a good antennae, look for a Wilson K40.  They are one of the best without going broke.

Here is some good reading.  Even though its Fire Stick's website, but there is alot of good basic reading on how to locate a good antennae location, and the type of coax to use.

its really nice having a CB when goin through some traffic or if theres a wreck somewhere, and the truckers have alwways got some crazy story to tell or whatever. on my dads DD we mounted 2 trucker status antennas, the kind that have a pipe clamp for the rear view mirrors on the bottom. Wilson brand, dont rememebr the model #

I had one but I got rid of it cause I never used it. The only thing I used it for was to listen to the weather. No one that I wheel with has one, or they do but it isnt in the truck. I think I might get another one just cause it is good to have. Oh and I had one of those magnitized antenas and I hated it. It alwayes fell off. What does everyone use for an antena?

I think the firestick or a wilson are always popular.  Mostly because they're pretty cheap, they're fairly flexible, and they work well, esp. for our needs.
