CB's are well worth it, even if you have a cheap one.  They are great for road trips.  And it is really nice when you are wheelin.  You can give tips to other's in your group and you can also warn other drivers of oncoming vehicles.

I have an L cheapo in my trail truck and use it evertime we are out wheeling.

I have a CB in my truck, it was one of the first "mods" that I made.  I grew up wheeling with CB's in the rigs.  Most of the time they are far superior to the family channel stuff.

Yes they are,  but it a case of 4 watts or .5 watt.   What one do you think is going to go farther.  Plus the Freq that the cb works in will bend around couners some. FRS  is stright line of sight.

Pretty much why we still carry a cb even though we've moved on to a more powerful radio. Except for non-members we use the 2 meter exclusively but we also have a cb in each truck to be able to talk with those on a run with us that don't have one.

Hey RS tell me about these 2 meter radios you are using?  2 Meter is a Ham band.. You mean a VHF Business band radio
that your club pays a company to use right.

I would use it all the time on the trail if it only worked :tantrum:

I just gotta get an antenna and the works as far as that goes.  I have the CB and it's hooked up, the antenna makes a huge difference though :hahaha:

2 meter is around the 140 MHz range, kinda overlaps the vhf business range.  Lot's of the two meter radios covers the vhf business range also.  I believe you supposed to have a Ham license(some testing involved) to transmit.  The vhf business license requires $.  There are some frequencies in a gray area that you could skate by on.

144-148 and the only skating you'll do is at the prison ice rink..

What you may think is Grey area, may just be used by a goverment service you have not run across before.

I could tell you not to do it, but that's about as far as i can go.. Need stronger evidents for a case.     :phone:

There are some itinerant frequencies that would require some research.  A lot of rumors of marine frequencies being used(not legal).

I love listening to the truckers on my CB. They all talk about nothing, most of the time. Usually about a one nighter with some random lady from somewhere else. And the PA's on them are even funner. I can yell at all my other friends who have them too with my PA while going down the street.  And they usually yell something back, but you cant hear it cus they already passed me

boggerunner

i use mine on the trail when someone else in my group actually has one, most of my friends have one in thier garage, but they never get around to installing it

Tallchevy

we use the C.B.'s  on the road & trail. We use it to let each other know when we have cleared the top or bottom when you can't see do to the terrain. This way if the person that is in front of you gets stuck on the trail, you don't have to back up or down a trail.  :twocents:

OK, time to get back in the pool.  I think a CB is one of the most important things you can have in a rig.  You can talk about trail conditions to a rearward vehicle, issuing spotting/warnings, you can get ahold of somebody in case of emergency, etc.  Not to mention you have CB service ANYWHERE when a cell might not.

tom w.

glen, i'm pretty sure the movie you're thinkin' of is "Joyride". just recently watched it, actually.

PA is always fun

Its great yelling at my friend in front of me with it  Or spot who evers in front of me with the PA. I use my C.B. all the time on the trail, turn the echo way up to screw with people  :rofl2: I have fun with my radio and PA.  :hammer:

But its great to have when there are alot of people and you can let the leader (if they have a CB) know if there is a problem in the back of the line.

dt

we have fun with them but when something serious comes about we all cut the bs and get serious  when the problem has been taken care of, then , its right back to the bs,they can make you money, save your life, get you laid,or just be
good clean fun

for our trucks  i really recommend  those  little cobras,  there the size of a  large  walkietalkie  but wired to the truck,  very handy  for truck to truck

I love CBs.  Me and my friends use them as we drive around town too, but they are great in the backcountry where no cellphone has service.  Not even the all godly verizon.

DirToyBoy, whats wrong with your CB?
