Here's our newest addition to the family.His name is patches,he's about 3-4 months old.We rescued him from starvation.He was very poor when the mrs brought him home and as you can tell he's doing very well now.

this morning my  wolf/dog Amy  killed  my  little puppy Candi,  she would have been 10 weeks old  tomorrow 


when i tried to get the puppy away  Amy  tried to bite me  so i was forced  to put her down

what was really  hard  was Duchess,  the puppies mom,  i had  to put her in the house  so i could  wrap  the puppie in a towel,

she kept nudging the towel away and licking Candi's face  trying to wake her up

Its best that Duchess saw the body though, she knows what happened. They always say when you have dogs that are close that it is best for the dog to see the deceased dog.
They will wonder where they are otherwise. Dogs don't grieve, they don't have a conscience like that. But they will wonder where a dog is if they don't know it's dead.

oh  they grieve,  i was laying under my truck  pondering a plan  for my rear bumper,  Duchess comes  down the hill crawls up on my  and just lies there  and wimpers     she mourns

That sucks Glen.   I think dogs do grieve. When we had to get rid of our Heeler, our Basset just mopped around the house for about 2 weeks. He did get over it though. But I think he is getting sick of our Retreiver!!

anyone that doesnt think dogs  grieve  should  watch the movie "Where the Red Fern Grows"


Duchess's  grandmother  died  not  1 week after her mom  died because she wouldnt eat,  she  would  lay  on her grave  all day,  i could   pick her up  and bring her to the house,  look out  to find her  and she'd be down there  again.  she didnt eat  or drink,  then  she died too.

just  like the dogs  in that movie 



and i dont know  of the stories  you hear  of  a man or woman dying  and there  dog   later dies  too because  it  refused to eat  and 

heck  Prissy  will still paw  at Dad's  recliner  and whine  sometimes

I ain't watchin no touchy feely tear jerker movie give me good ol fashioned gratuitous sex and graphic violence.

Anyhoo I have heard that if a person or another pet dies it is good to let the dog sniff the body so they know what happened to the person and can move on.
Unless she saw your father's remains Prissy may be wondering where he is.
I have not had any experience with a close person or pet dieing though... yet.
