any ideas for manual choke?
« on: Mar 18, 2006, 06:09:58 PM »
Has anyone come up with a quality manual choke for an '81 22r stock carb?  I got a universal kit from the parts store, but there are several issues with it, such as the supplied mount flexes too much, and the mounting hardware hits the air cleaner.  I was hoping that someone could post some pics of their own manual choke set up.  I searched the forum, but no luck.  Any assistance is much appreciated!

its all in how you set it up,  and the kit you got, it shouldnt take much to rig it up,

I think it is the kit that I got.  I tried just about every way to set it up with no luck. The way my kit mounts to the choke shaft won't clear the air cleaner.   Do you know who made your kit?

oh  i have a weber,   i'll look at a 22R carb tomorrow and see what i can find for a answer

but if you put a clamp on the side of the carb and run the pull wire on the actuall choke shaft  it might work

why are you setting up a manual choke... ?
I'd like to quit thinking of the present as some minor insignificant preamble to something else~~~~~

I'm setting up a manual choke because the electric choke was being an inconsistant pain in the arse.  It would not work when starting and then stick when the engine warmed up.  I tried adjusting it, but realized it would be cheaper and (so I thought) easier to make it a manual choke.  I have a few ideas on how to make a better choke kit than the one I bought, just wanted to see if anyone here had any great ideas/pics of theirs.

This may be a dumb question, but since it's already an electric choke, couldn't you just run a switch from a source thats hot with the ignition on to the factory choke harness? That way you could turn it on/off at will with a switch......seems to good to be true though, i know that there is some vacuum stuff involved with the choke too......
