Thanks. My girlfriend says I need to get some bigger tires for it. She thinks it looks wimpy with the 33s. I might have to make the most of that and get some 37's while the getting is good. She wants to drive it too so that means I need to get started building something else for me huh??

She wants do drive this truck now. She might like the next one when I get it built tho. I was thinking about a tube frame buggy unless I find something to use before I start the frame. I'm going to start building the front axle, thats how this truck started and where the most money is. I have a housing trimmed and trussed already, I just need to figure out if im going full hydro or hydro assist so I can start making brackets.

I want to use a 4.3 and automatic again. It is so much easier when you can back off and bump it when you need to. Thats hard to do with a stick. I was almost 180/1 so I was plenty low but it is so much nicer with the auto. I will start a buildup when I start the real build. I'll get pics of the front axle and post it all when I start putting it togather. I want to buy a dana 44 high pinion build it for a rear steer if I can. It just seems like too much to do now, I have to get one thing at a time done.

let me know when you are going. I just went with my neighbor and happened to run into 86rustbucket there. I like going with people better, I'm afraid to get too stupid when there is no other rigs there.

I have to get another main hoop bent so I can get my exocage back on. I like having it removable but when I cut it off I wanted to leave the 2 rear hoops so it made it difficult to re attach. I'm going to just bend another hoop and bolt it into the rock skis next to the rear section and maybe attach it at the top with light tabs just to give it a little more strength. Then it will be removable with just a few bolts. I have a feeling I'm going to need it when winter comes. I think the new fence on the bald trail is going to have a lot of paint on it when the slope gets icy.

I think the trails are closing fast now. Red lake is pretty easy,  coyote is probebly do-able.  You could do swamp but it would take some good navigation, besides I think it will be closed in a few weeks anyway if its not already. Bald is the only trail open all winter. I did pretty much everything in my early bronco with 35's. A toyota with 33's has as much clearance as a bronco with 35's because of the housing size difference. I did dusey-ershem with 35" TSL's and posi's. I just picked my line and took it slow, drove right through it. I have not taken this truck on many trails because I didnt have another rig to go with and then the motor took a  :pokinit: . I did swamp from the top almost to grouse lake and mirror but not much else.

I think they all are closing really quickly, usually November 1st is the last day.

Thanks.  I'm off and could go the 22nd. I will have to work this weekend unless I can get someone there to cover for me (fat chance). We could do bald even if its snowing there.

did you run into any clearance problems with steering shaft/ header clearance on the 4.3? the more I look at swaps, the more I want one.

I made the shaft from the guts from a GM tilt colum. It has a double flat shaft with a short U joint on it, I adapted that to the rag joint from the toyota gearbox and welded a adapter to the toyota colum. I'll post a photo of it later. It clears pretty well but I have cast iron exhaust manifolds. I had a bracket with a bearing in the middle but it didnt clear the exhaust.  Love my 4.3 but if I was going to do it again I would use the TBI.  Much easier to wire.  Besides in a pinch you could always make a adapter for the intake to use a carb to get you home. Just carry a 2bbl carb, old style dist, and electric fuel pump.

heard the early tbi's had a small imbalance problem at 1200 rpms? probabaly wouldnt be too much of an issue. Seems like the way to go is th350 or 700r4. But I hate automatics, Id probably try and keep my w56. It just sucks cause I just bought a fresh 22re rebuild from a buddy for 500, now I want a 4.3 lol. And I saw one one craigslist with complete motor, ecu, wiring harness, etc with propane for only 900. arrrrrg. You can find complete donor rigs for way cheap too.
