That should be one sick runner, looks like we're at the same stage with the SAS "process". The only difference (and benefit to you) is that you have the company of your girlfriend  ........oh yea, its lookin good too.

Lifting the "axle housing" is the correct term and only important because it is bigger yielding a bigger boo boo for us to fully sympathize with your pain.  You can send my wife a picture if you want, or maybe Germ could take a look?

OK sorry I haven't posted the pictures.  I'm so stoked.  Last night it got on all 4's.  And it sits pretty much even.  Maybe just a tiny bit low in the rear but almost perfectly even.  I've decided now that all 4 runners look low in the back even if that frame is level they slope off in the back.  I missed tuesday's pictures and so far that all the ones I"ve uploaded on my photobucket account because my g/f took her camera with her last night and so I wasn't able to put the finished pictures on here.  Don't worry I will tonight.  We are planning on driving about 250 miles with it today and we'll let you all know how it drives.

Well i guess if you don't know how to swap an engine it would be harder :dunno:

I do nkow how to swap an engine.  My buddy and I decided against doing that because the wireharness was just enough off that we didn't want to screw around with stupid wireing.  Again I HATE engine work because it never ever goes right for me.  I can try and try to get it right but just never get all of it to work properly.  I guess that why I'm in school for Auto Mech.  Next quarter I'm starting on my Bachlors in Auto Mechanics.

Here's what happened on Tuesday.
Rotated the steering box.  (the whole axle is about 5 inches forward)

The UPS man brought me a valentines present from Marlin and Crew

Getting them all welded up.

Putting my bracing on for the crossmember

a nice fat bead to help strenghten the front end.

Back on tires.  Getting ready for the back end.

Like i said I'm done with all of the suspension now I just don't have the pictures.  I'll have lots more to post tonight.  I can't wait to go drive it around.  I am going to try and put in the dual cases this weekend but I dont' know if I will be able to.  GTG and I are going to my parents house this weekend and she is getting her wisdom teath pulled.  So that might just have to wait until next week.  But hey at least its driveable now.  Just doesn't have 4wd.

That answers my question about putting the duals in, I figured that you were planning to.

oh no worries.  I wouldn't go to Moab without them.  NO WAY.  I'm to used to them and rely on the low gearing to get me through things.

gotrocks

well hey sorry its been 2 days since I posted pictures but here ya guys go

With the rear all up on blocks I got the tires off and took all of the rear bumper crap off.

After doing all that it was just a simple unbolting of the leaf springs and wahlah
Oh and took that stupid rear spare tire mount off.  Its going to make room for my OBA tank

gotrocks

Now with room to work the rear fun starts.  MORE MEASURING.  I always hate doing this because I just know I'm going to screw something up.

I used Marlin's rear spring hanger and measured 6 inches forward eye to eye and just cut the old shackle mount off with my Plasma torch and moved it back 2 inches

I feel so bad for my poor other runner.  With its axles stripped now hopefully I'll be able to get my full widths under it sometime this next year and get the engine running again.  But for now it'll just sit in the corner of my shop on jackstands.

gotrocks

with the final measureing done I cut off the old spring mounts and was quite nervous doing so on the passengers side because of the gas tank.  To avoid a very possible explosion if I had cut into the tank I placed some 1/4" steel between the mount and the tank just to be a buffer zone.

Oh finally the axle goes under.

gotrocks

YES IT IS ON ITS OWN 4 WHEELS

I was so worried that it wasn't going to sit level when it went back on its tires but amazingly enough it is quite level.

gotrocks

It was to late wednesday night to finish getting everthing all torqued down and driveable but I was able to pull it out of the shop the next morning and take it for its first drive.  I have to say that I really like marlins springs.  They ride quite nice and even though I haven't taken them out on the trial yet I don't think I'm going to be dissapointed.

GRG and I drove it to my parents house only 4 hours after it pulled out of the shop.  We had a little bit of a vibration at around 70 and some around 35 and lower speeds but I really think its just the driveshaft.  It had a vibration at the same speeds before when it was stock and so when i put the duals in this week we'll wait and see if that takes care of it.

Oh I forgot.  I got my exhaust put on today.  I put a LCEngineering header on with a Flowmater 40 series.  I thought it'd be a little throatier like my NWOR header was but it diffenatly improved the midrange thats for sure.  So now it is a 2 inch all the way back and it fit VERY snuggly against the body.  Now when we drive home on Monday hopefully it wlll not be so noisy in the truck.  We got a really baffleing sound when we were cruising, I hope that goes away now that the exhaust isn't just dumping out behind my seat under the rig.

yeah its about 4 to 5 inches forward.  I did that on the last SAS for a buddy I really liked how it turned out so I moved mine even further than I did his.  I don't mind the little gain in wheelbase either.

Ramrod

how did you get the axle 5" forward?  with the marlin springs you would have to weld the hanger on 3.5" foward of stock to get those results and you definitly didn't do that

gotrocks

I said around 4 to 5, the way I'm getting that measurement is that the pitman arm was about 4, to 5 inches off.  I had the marlin springs on my 90 and its been SAS'd but the steering was just right, and didn't need the steering box to be moved.
