80 yota project startup

this is what i got to start with it is a 1980 with 20r 4sp i think it has the gear driven transfer case, it has a lift on it but not sure how much or what kind it is i do know it has 35x12.50 bfg all terrains on it. and a 2 inch body lift.

plans are
dual case from marlin
berfield replacement
hi steer marlin
ifs steering box
lockers front and rear maybe electric ?
square tube drive lines
rock sliders i am building
roll cage i may build also
flat bed i am building
front winch bumper for milemarker 9500
tsl boggers
on board air
and on board welder

You have some lofty goals!  Yes you have a gear driven case.  Can you take pics and post em here so we can see how much lift you have?

well got my rock sliders built and tacked into place today i will probably finish welding them next weekend.should be getting my new carb this week.  i am still having problems posting pictures i resized them and it is telling me it was moved. am i doing something wrong.

a word of advise ditch the tranny thats in your truck its junk ive killed 3 of them the L43 is the worst tranny to ever be put in a 4wd toy unless some one swaped in a later model L45 the easyest ways to tell is that the L43 will have a shifter on the side of the case and it will have a removable bellhousing and the L45 will have the shifter on the top and the bell housing will be cast into the rest of the tranny good luck and have fun on the build
ps sense its already in there you might as well milk what you can out of it but id definetly recommend an upgrade when it goes

yotaboy79 thanks for the info i am new to the early toys but i am planing on putting in a 5 speed but like you said i might as welll milk the one i have for now

thanks hammerdown thats the paint job that was on it when i got it i am going to be changing the color to black but yes it is a whole lot of green.

i just my new carb today and my rebuild kit for the front dif came in today ordered it from marlin. anybody have any addvise on rebuilding the front hubs?

get lots of shop rags  and make shure to take the time to get the trunion bearings set up right i got in a hurry and just used the old spacers and pulled my drivers side top trunion bearing out in peaces

yeah just takes time for the shims i would recomend trying the stock ones plus a thin one in the kit in the top and bottom and that should get you in the ball park

well i got the new carb on it today and fired it up it runs alot better than what it did. but at an idol it will rev up a little then it will rev down does anybody know what can cause that. thanks

check for vacume leaks or a vacum line ran to the wrong place that would be my first guess

i checked all the lines i got a vacume diagrahm and checked them off of that i haven't found a vacume leak yet but who knows i may need to put new intake gasket or something thanks

hey guys i found a 5 spd transmission and transfercase for 400 dollars   how do you tell the difference between the l50 and l52 is it worth 400 thanks

pull the input cover off so you can get the number off the input bearing number,   look at Marlin's site  under tranny rebuilds  to find the numbers

thanks i will check it tomorrow hope its a l52 but the l50 will work its got to be better than the side shift 4spd i have in it. i will post pics of the trans  and i am putting in some 83 celica gt bucket seats and i pulled off that big ugly front bumper today looks much better.

$400  is a little steep for a used L50/52 


is that last number a ####0851N     or  08S1N

well i bought the transmission and t-case the trans is the l52 according to the number on the input bearing  the number is b32-14 i will post a pic of the trans and t-case tonight
