Greetings from Idaho!....with pics!!!!!
« on: Dec 30, 2005, 09:36:49 PM »
Howdy, I've been lurking for awhile and figured what the heck.  I live in Boise, ID.  But only for the last 6 mos.  I'm from Kansas, hence the name.  I currently have an 85 4Runner which is mostly stock, except for 31s and some goofy stuff from the previous owner (i.e. smitty huge tube bumpers front and rear, ugly chromed steel wheels, fender flares, etc).  Anyway, it has a lot of potential.

I used to have a 91 4Runner V6, 5spd, etc.   I loved that truck, it was totaled after I was  hit by an 85yr old in a Buick in the front left.  I bought the wreckage back from salvage, drove it home on a flatbed trailer (quite a site to see your truck getting hauled around the salvage pool on the front of a Cat loader), and drove it off the trailer under it's own power.  I put it back on the road within a couple of days.  New upper and lower ball joints on front left, new front shocks, one new brake line, installed new cv boots.  I put the truck back on the road for about $250 bucks.  I drove it another 35,000 miles after that.

Until its final day.  I drove it to lunch at a local sports bar, but at the same time my bacon cheeseburger was being set down an announcement was made over the PA system.  "There is a toyota SUV on fire in the parking lot....the fire department is already on the way."  I stood up slowly hoping someone else would run outside ahead of me, but no such luck.  Sure enough, I get outside to see smoke rolling out from under the hood.  I was able to unlock the door, and pull the hood latch which still worked, so the firemen lifted the hood up without chopping and put out the fire.

Still the damage had already been done.  The fire started on the front passenger side where the battery and other electrical stuff was located.  Most of the wiring, rubber, and plastic under the hood was damaged.  It looked good enough still, that it sat on the street in front of my home for a couple of months...I moved it back and forth from time to time to keep the HOA in the dark.  I finally towed it to my parents farm where it could sit until I could get the time to do the 3.4 swap and SAS I'd wanted to do.  Alas, I moved to Idaho and my mom grew impatient and dad couldn't run interference anymore, so I ebayed it a month ago for $630......about a month after I bought my 85 in Idaho.  Anyway, the 91 did nothing but put money in my pocket and provide many memories.

I've really enjoyed the site thus far.  As for my 85, i'm thinking marlin's flex kit, 5.29s, aussie rear, 35inch toyo MTs, Can-Back, and some engine stuff(header, cam, etc).  Not all necessarily in that order.

Later!

Thanks,  that's why I bought the 85.  I knew what it was and the guy that had it didn't.    I love it, I drove it up to the ski hill today to go check out the latest 15 inches without any trouble....I even helped pull a civic that had nosed into a snow bank to his doors back out.

Thanks all for the warm welcome!  KSRunnerinIdaho would be very descriptive for sure.  I still feel most strongly connected to KS, so Idaho will have to wait before being acknowledged in screen names.

As soon as I can round up some pics, you all will be the first to know!

my 91 after the fire resting comfortably at home.

The only external damage from the fire was a little paint blistering.

Okay, ask and you shall receive.....

Here's my 85 with the Smitty bumpers I dislike and the ugly chrome wheels with 31 inch Kelly ATs, also the nice negative arch springs....still it is a very clean truck.

Me neither!  I just started a new job, so it may be awhile before any real building up happens.   ::)
