It's working, eh?

I might as well move my posts here and start over :gap:

I had a GREAT time! I really enjoyed the fresh snow and it snowed on us, so that was extra cool  I bet I have only experienced snow actually falling less than 10 times in my life, so it was cool :D

Here is the 7:45am Morning Denny's Group

I can't remember everyone, but from the First picture, going from Right-to-Left, Is I think Darrel at the foreground table, and then Geno, his son, Lilbuddy, TURBO, and myself in the background table.

The next picture from Right-to-left, at the background table, we've got freds40, his wife, PaulW, and that's all I know :lipsrsealed:  :_oops:  :bolt:

The drive up there was pretty good. Most of the morning Denny's group went on up the road ahead of the 9AM group, and we met them at the begining of Rock Creek Road (about ~4 miles from the trail head).

Leaving Starbucks at 9AM, we had about 10-12 rigs and TEX's tow rig. We were able to stay together as a group pretty well until we hit the famous "4-Lane" Grade. I was leading the group on the road, and once we hit the 4 Lanes, I was just keeping it around 55 or so, and still only PaulW (3.4l V6), and Geno (Supercharged 22R-E) could keep up. I took it down to 50mph, and we still couldn't see the headlights of anyone else, so I decided I would show off some 4-cylinder power and see if Paul and Geno wanted to play. I accelerated up to 72 Mph passing a honda civic, before coming back down to 65-ish. Paul and Geno gave chase, but I was waiting for either of them to open it up, but they never did. At first I figured Paul had a 3RZ, but later I found out he is a V6. I am sure Paul could have taken me if he tried, but I wanted to see what that Supercharger had  next time Geno! hahahaha

There be snow in them thar mountains!

At first there wasn't much snow really, but once the elevation started changing, the snow just kept getting deeper and deeper and deeper.

The snow has a very thin top layer crust, about 1/2" thick, and once you break through that, there was about 6 inches of very soft powdery popcorn snow, then a 2nd thinner crust layer, and then another 6-10" of more powder snow.

So if you had good momentum, you could make some good time, but once you loose it, you instantly sink a good 12-16". :o

Here was some Blazer burried in the snow. Someone else was talking about it, and yep, it's still there :sheerterror:

And this was about as far as we got before we ran into Squirrel (a local Snow-Run Hero), Squirrelly (his wife), Steve (Captain Squirrel - Awesome flat bed 1/4-elliptical rig), James, and some other rigs from those crazy Snow guys group. Also, donkykong was able to some how sneak in with Squirrel's group with his father and their Jeep Rubicon.

At one time I counted 29 rigs. That was a lot of rigs. It was like this was some huge organized event

As far as I know, we had no break downs and only one rig lost a tire bead. With that many rigs in the snow, it could have been a nightmare, but we were fortunate that everyone who came knew what they were doing and pretty much were well equipped for the snow

And that was about it. It was already about 2pm and TURBO, Stewart, and I had to be back in Fresno by 5pm, so we decided to head out, and everyone else headed out also because it had started snowing again and the snow conditions were getting worse. Not good for the couple of open-open rigs we had up there......

Like Stewart, who thought he wanted to add some man-power to his 3.4 V6 :tease: hehehe Everyone got a huge laugh out of that at the Shop Party later that night when I showed all of these pictures up on the big screen

Here's a nice shot of some clouds rolling up the mountain side

On the way out, cruzila and I played on a downhill side road. We must had gone at least a full mile down this road before turning around. cruzila's got some sweet video footage of me driving around a tree stump on a slop before I sunk it almost up to the chassis. It took a while to get out of that one :slap:

I've got some Videos that I'll have to downsize and throw online, I'll do that later today maybe...

It was a lot of fun and I look forward to the 2nd Annual Lilbuddy Snow Run! :_order: :yesnod:

But you can't go to the snow without bringing some back down, right? Am I right?!

 Here Angelo tests out the Snow Woman's "Features" hahahaha :rofl2:

Thanks to Marlin for letting me borrow his locked 37" MTRs  5psi on the way in and 2psi on the way out, never lost an inner bead.

When I read this the first time I didn't realize you were running bead locks...but the question can still be asked:

How would one go about changing a tire in snow that deep if the bead was lost?  Looks kind of difficult to get a jack on anything solid.  :dunno:

Great pics Mike. Amanda and I had a great time. Got to meet/wheel with some really cool people. She's ready to go again. I'll have to catch ya again sometime when we can spend a day in the snow.

On the tire thing, one of mine had a slow leak (0 psi that got lower with lower elevation). Best thing to do, wrap a ratchet strap from your frame around your axle to lessen the amount of lift needed from the jack. I carry a 4x12x about 18" chunk of wood for jacking in the really deep stuff. Wrap a strap around the tire and add air.

Dumb question, does having this much snow stuck around the knuckles have a way to get into the birfield joints?  I know there is some felt around the balls but it doesn't seem like much.

I am sure that a little bit of moisture must have gotten in, or at least had some chance to do so, and that is why when you rebuild your knuckles, you pack the crap out of the spindles and the knuckles with as much grease as possible to reduce the space available for water (or anything else) to enter to.

Hahaha  that’s funny

I wish I could say he was a cradle robber, cuz that would mean that I was very young………..obviously he’s NOT!

BUT, he is perverted……….that’s just one of those qualities I love about him.

Great pics you guys, looks like you had fun.

Chris got this one of Rick and I. No matter how hard I tried (re:skinny pedal assault) I just couldn't make it. I ended up taking Rick's line, slightly modified. Still trying to get used to the 90" WB down from my '83s 107" WB

Apparently it is too big and now I can't delete. :hammerhead:
