more flex?
« on: Dec 07, 2005, 04:32:26 PM »
Is there anyway to get some better flex out of my IFS on my 99 taco?

just until i have the resources to SAS, but until then, i want allitle more capability out of my front end
'99 SR5/TRD Tacoma w/5vzfe. SAS'd with 64" diamond axle (w/ long superset & ARB). about 5" of lift, 305/75 x16 BFG KM1's. Soon to come: 1.5" more lift (6.5"), 35 to 37" tire, undecided at this point., 63" F/F diamond rear, Marlin 4.7 tacobox.

It should have a sway bar that you can disconnect, it will alow the suspension to travel up and down more freely.
The only thing is it will not handle as good on the highway, much more sloppy; but still safe.

Should not be that bad, just take the time on a weekend to take it off, go drive around for a little while and see how it handles, my 4-runner didnt handle that much worse.

disconnect it and the drive around, if you dont liek the way it feels then reconnect it, if you think it feels fine, remove it the rest of the way

i have been running my truck without it since i lifted it over a year ago....

at cheap tricks there is a few articles about a quick disconnect if you like the way it runs offroad but still need the sway bar onroad
Sand, what fun, drop pressure to 12psi, stock tires are still digging, can't afford to get stuck, 8psi, still not working. Find a place to GET OUT, air up, un-lock hubs,  WAIT whats this, hubs are UN-LOCKED already. 2wd, 8psi, stock tires, Oregon sand dunes.

dude,  if you are weary  of tossing the swaybar,  dont even think about a SAS

throw the sway bar in the trash,  if it seems uncontrollable or sloppy  to you DO NOT  DO A SAS,

Flex = body roll

no way around it

my sisters cherokee  was fine without one  and she drives like a :idiot:

Why not just take off one side. see what kind of flex you get. All you have to do is disconnect two bolts for each sice. :-D Tell me how it works, cuz I have an 01, and its not much different.

I really shouldn't drive without my sway bar...I still think my taco is a race car. :-D  so I will stick with it, and just take out the link if needed more flex.

What do  you guys think of the allpro Tacoma SAS kit, it  uses coil overs and seems to be put together well with everything you need

I really wish i could go with something from marlin, but marlin doesnt really offer too much for the 99 tacoma.

Took the swaybar out completely, today, theres definitely an increase in performance offroad (really feels smoother threw the rough stuff), more flex too.   and theres definitely an increase of bodyroll on and offroad, but as long as you remember your driving a lifted truck without a swaybar instead of a race car  :idiot:,  it should be fine.
