White Rock
« on: Aug 15, 2009, 07:44:27 PM »
i have started to build my 1st gen runner.my plans are not HUGE but fun and capable DD. there will be allot of  :headscratch: and :phone: then some of this :flamer: and if everything goes right LOTS of this :driving:.

this is what i am starting out with.

first things first.
cut off rear bumper, and step things

next i had to replace a rear wheel bearing and axle seal and do a tune up.
now we got it running fine and leaking no fluids.

i remember seeing someone use a product, (coulda been jbweld, or fiberglass filler ie bondo) they smeared it over the pitting and then used a flapper wheel and had a nice smooth surface..... jst FYI if your worried bout it....
Those are some huge welds!

I run 80W90 Valvoline gear oil in axle and the outters (knuckles) I run a high temp disc brake wheel bearing grease

Looks like a good start on your project.

for the outers you pack the birfs like you would a wheel bearing atleast thats how i do it just keep rotating it and pack it then fill the inside of the ball full of grease put the knuckles on and if you are really feelin it you can pull those square plugs and pump it with a grease gun just dont get to much in there or it'll mess up your seals

heres whats on the menu:
1980 front axle replaced seals and bearings
63" chevy springs
TG rear leaf brackets
TG front spring hanger
TG front shakles and frame tubes
TG hi-steer
TG u-bolt flip kit
