im kinda pissed
« on: Nov 29, 2005, 11:46:52 AM »
so my 22re equiped runner runs like garbage intermitantly.
it acted like it was running out of gas/stalling/bogging down
i replaced the fuel filter-plugs-wires-cap and rotor-massair flow meter-tps sensor-and finnally the computer
when i replaced the computer it ran great but a little sluggish, so i put another new one out of a celica in it-and it ran like a raped ape
for about 250 miles and now its doing the bogging down at 2900 or 3000rpm again, completely pissed of and tired of spending money on this thing

MARLIN-MIKE--HELP!!!!!! :beerchug:

you sure that the exhaust systom is open? no back presser?
and the fuel pump is it good? presser AND volume?
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

Sounds like someting electrical is burning up the computers you keep replacing. I don't agree with a fuel
problem since it runs fine when you put a new computer in. Dist and Computer control the fuel pump on
the 22RE, so maybe a dist problem.

The distrubitor does not control the fuel pump? The fuel pump is controlled via an Ignition ON condition, and a signal from the air box which grounds the OCR, which completes the voltage to the Fuel Pump. It can also be controlled from the Diag. box, if this system is 1987 or later.

I have to agree with BLF. I would look into the fuel pump for sure. After we finished Marlin's 3RZ conversion, we were using an EFI fuel tank that we had out back. We just figured that the pump was good. But his truck would run great sometimes, and then poor other times. Come to find out, the fuel pump was wasted, and was not reliable at keeping a constant pressure all the time...

However, you are only getting this problem during a certain RPM range, and that would lead me to think it is not a fuel deliverly problem, or at least not a lack of fuel pressure, I should say.

How about your Ignitor? Does it have a good ground? Has it ever gotten wet?
Also, how are your Engine and Chassis grounds?

During the 2900-3000 rpm bogging, is it related to throttle position as well as RPM, or only RPM? What if you were in 5th gear at 2900 rpm, like at 40 mph, and you show plenty of throttle. How does that compare to say 2nd gear at like 10 mph at 2900 rpm with partial throttle?

It seems as though its a throtle position related problem also, it does it in  all gears at that rpm range- but the tps was replaced with a new-not new used- one less than 500 miles ago.ill check out the grounds-as i have moved the ignitor and coil to make room for shock hoops, any other ideas would be apreciated-thanks mike

how does it run after it goes past 29-3K?

if it won't go that far, check fuel pump out.

if i keep it reveing, or keep it "under load" it runs fine

and where is the regulator?

does that motor have an egr valve?, and if it does, unplug the vacuum line to it, and check this......what happens (if this is the problem) one or more ov the actual egr ports in the intake gets clogged, then sending all that exhaust gas into the remaining unclogged egr ports in the manifold......this causing a lean condition, and making the motor bogg down, at any rpm just depending on the finnike-ness of your motor.....and this problem is completely seperate from the ignition and or fuel system....anyways it takes like 2 secs to unplug the line and cap it off.....its worth a shot just to try it and rule it out

Another thing....pull your plugs out and look at them just after driving it, and the problem orrurs......especially look at the electrode and the anode, and also the insulator and post up what it looks like.....color, amber, yellow, dk brown, light orange, red orange, ashy grey, black and sutty, white and ashy, black and greasy.....etc, just by pulling the plugs out and comparing each other b/t the 4, and looking at the plug in general, can tell you alot about whats going on in the combustion chamber....also is the problem in any way associated with being hot cold, warm, ran for a long period, after idling for a long period....what is your timing set at?
