Pissed off build

Well iv spent alot of money on my old truck and i reckon i didnt spend enough to get rid of the word "old". I guess at 32 years old you need to take a little more time with them. Rebuilt axles...bad trunion bearing in the front and snapped the axle bearing in the rear. front main seal was leaking so i replaced it now the rear main seal is leaking and clutch is slipping.  timing chain guides broke so i replaced it with a HD steel timing chain set, new timing chain cover, oil pump, water pump BUT i tried doing it with the head on and damaged the front of the NEW head gasket that i put on when the old one went out ...now its leaking oil bad from the front. New weber 38....needs to be re-jetted.

So im just gonna build this thing over the next year or so. first axles with the good parts maybe lower gears? and then pullin the whole freakin motor. rebuildin that thing with nice hyper pistons. maybe bored .020 over if needed, balanced bottom end, nice street built head and all the clean stuff from LCE and ENGNBLDR so i know i got good parts. Crossover steering, polyurethane throughout the suspension, maybe some nice bilstein 5100? Everything painted up, mud cleaned off, dents fixed, rust gone. cleanin mud out the interior from when i sunk it, carpet gone and bedliner rolled in. New bumpers, maybe some good lookin sliders, rear disc brake conversion. This is more or less gonna be a build/restoration for a DD/mild wheeler/dirt strip racer lol. Heck i might as well get a new tool box that aint got bullet holes in it.

So for anyone interested ill keep updates as i get all this done. Hopefully ill figure out a way to get pictures uploaded from my phone so yall can see it too.

And in my own defense somtimes what i did was litterally over night as fast as possible so id have a ride the next morning to work or school and i did buy some questionable parts from ebay no more cutting corners iv basically threw my money away before now. Still young. Still learning i reckon.

For pictures, use Photobucket or Flicker, and do yourself a favor, and get a digital camera.  The pictures will turn out better than most cell phone cameras.  And take you time on fixing things.  Don't get in a hurry and do a fly by night repair, since that seems to be your weakness on the issues on your rig.  When I swapped out motors on my truck, (went from 22RTE to a 22RE) I took my time, to make sure every sensor, wire, plug and etc, was all within spec, and had continuity according to the FSM.  I spent 3 weeks just on the engine harness alone.  I wanted to be sure it worked the first time, and I had to fix some things, and I made things better by using a spare harness.

He is right. Attention to detail... I had to replace a head gasket and was going on a road trip in 2 days... decided "all I need is the gasket right?" Ripped it all off, put a gasket on, bolted it back down... I did the hasty thing and ended up paying for skipping about 30 steps. Your truck will be great once you reach the wax-on-wax-off part of your training, young grasshopper 8)

Got a little update. Not on my rig but my Dad's 85 4runner just got in the SDS injection system and from LCE puttin it on now. Its ALOT more than what i thought but for $1800 i guess its not just plug and play.

I know lol. Im excited. Gets rid of the distributor, the big air flow meter box and replaces the coil pack with 4 individual coil packs. Plus its clean and shiny

This build sounds like it will be a great build. Heck even that SDS sounds like it needs a bit more detail and pics. I will be looking forward to this.

Yea im just saving up money right now. I pay for everything on my truck with a part time minimum wage job after school lol so its gonna take a little time. The SDS is for my Dad's and its pretty cool. LCE really put together a good kit there. Drilled the holes in the crankshaft pulley last night and put the magnets in it (which took the longest), Got the distributor block off plug in and the 4 individual coil packs mounted. Got the Hall (Haul?) sensor bolted to the bottom of the oil pump too. Should have it finished in another 2 or 3 days.

As far as my own rig i got some diamond plate last night and im gonna fab a cup holder for it. Also got a call from an old buddy who's got some rebuilt front and rear axles with 5.29s and a detroit in the rear that he'd be willing to let go for $750. I just dont know if i wanna run 5.29s with just 33s.

Front axle rebuild kit is in for my truck so thats good news. Gonna order kits for both diffs next then kit to rebuild rear axle. Iv seen these 4340 "better than stock" chromo birfields. Aint a terrible price but should i go with them or just use stock? Id like to do longfields but i dont Really have a need for them since im not competing in the hammers anytime soon haha. Just wanna make this thing clean and relaible but capable when ever the occasions present themselves

Also i have no idea how far the SDS system is coming along. Iv been workin 10 hour shifts after school trying to get money. So my Dad is doin it alone but im dedicated to my own build for now haha

Been thinkin about buying a cheap tube bender and makin my own front bumper because i cant find em for first gens any where anyone done this?

I know i was sad to hear the news. Hard working man and his product showed it. I think you can still get them since they're still selling them online and out of catalogs and im hoping the business will still keep booming. $600 is just too much though for what this rig is right now.

The one's im looking at are just 4340 "better than stock" chromoly inner axles and birfields. Wouldnt be but about $200 after shipping. Uncle owns a driveline shop so he might can get em cheaper. Seen em on LowRangeOffroad so my biggest concern is them coming from trail gear. Iv never ordered anything personally from them. My Dad has ordered plenty from them though and he never had any complaints but iv seen mixed reviews about them online. Just looking to get oppinons on it. Im hoping ill have more than enough money to get all this done after christmas with all the work iv been doing.

Decided that id just wait till i break an axle before i go to chromoly stuff. Ordered front diff rebuild kit and some knuckle gussets from trail gear yesterday. Also got one of the "small" differential armor.....idk if anyone knows what im talkin about lol. Knuckle rebuild kit and full service kit are sitting in the boxes in the shop just waiting on the other stuff. Gonna paint it back black and clean it up.

Replaced all the power steering hoses today too and fixed that oil leak for now. Found some sound dampener stuff from 3M im gonna put in my cab and on the bottom of it to silence some of the annoying whine mud tires make. Just cant upload pictures for some reason so im just gonna make a youtube account and post links to videos for those that are interested. 

Made the diamond plate cup holder btw just gotta drill holes in the floor and bolt it in whenever i get out there.

Nothing else real big for now except purple power washed the engine bay and cleaned that up. Just trying to have something clean and i can be proud of

Got a few pics of my engine bay with the weber 38, paint and really good clean up i did not too long ago. Workin on gettin rid of all the mud out. Ill get some more up of the interior and as i rebuild the axles.

Diff rebuild kit finally came in while i was rabbit huntin excited to pull it out and get it cleaned up painted and runnin right.

Knuckle gussets aint in yet but the diff armor is. Pictures will be up soon as i can and ill let yall know how it all goes

Really proud of how clean my engine bay is compared to.how  it used to look. A can of spray paint some brake parts cleaner and a 5 gallon bucket of purple power is all i really used oh yeah a steel brush cleans up grease real good too.
