I have thought about that, I dont think I will have a problem because I have 4 3/4" of drop from my spring hanger.  Knowing that do you think I will have a problem?

whiteman

Quick shot of the gas tank location, I still need to make the mounting tabs though.
Not sure I like this Diomond tool box though, a little to  :bling:

yep I second the tilting of the box and if possible moving it farther foward.  Plus i'm thinking you have a 2 3/4" drop hanger because u are only supposed to count that chunk of square because the stock hangers are already 2.5" below the frame

whiteman

Okay, I will try and get it tilted and moved forward tonight, Thanks for the input guy's

yotadork83

i'm liking your build so far and i agree on the tilting your steering box. just had a? What is that bolt on top of your front spring hanger?

Yes I have been reading the FAQ's and looking at what others are doing and i will definatley be cutting out the core support and tilting it more.  I will have to cut into my body mount to move the box forward more.

My spring hanger is removeable/bolt on.  :gap:

WTF!!!

Well here is my hack job.
After reading FAQ after FAQ I decided this is how it is going to be.  Not my first choice, but I gues it is the thing to do.

The tie rod on the Pitman Arm is closer but I dont think it will hit.  I am thinking about leaving it like this and cycling the suspesion to see if it hits.  I may just buy a flat pitman arm, for the comfort  :dunno:

Dang whiteman, seeing how long all this is taking you doesn't give me much motivation to start mine!

kneedownnate

Wait, that didn't sound right.....what I mean is seeing how long it takes some people to finish their projects isn't a great motivator when you have similar projects lined up.  The plus side, I'm not content unless I have some sort of project going, even if I don't actually work on it regularly.

Yea tell me about it.  I have'nt had a 4wd in so long, I am going crazy.  It does get frustrating somtimes as well, my biggest problem is lack of time, money, and tools.
Some times I just have to leave it alone for a week or so otherwise I get frustrated with it and dont want to finish it.  I lack patience, but this build is really helping me :yesnod:

Pitman arm angle looks much better! Good job!

They won't hit, as your suspension compresses your tie rod will move toward the rear of the truck.

whiteman

Thanks Mini, I am going to weld it all in tonight, and hopfully finish mounting my gas tank.

Just read this post in one sitting.  You're doing great.

whiteman

Well I did not get anything done tonight, I never got a welder.
Instead I had a brand new BBQ'er sitting on my porch :dunno:  So what the heck, put it together, called up a few friends and we are having grand'ol time breaking it in   See you tommorrow

Same thing as last night, no welder.  So after we got done BBQing again, we did some bicycle smashing, on these dirt humps by my house.

Yoyo.
I got the steering welded in and painted up, I started to rn my brake lines but bought the wrong fittings, I also needed to get a O2 sensor but by the time I realized it, all the shops were closed.  I also got my CD player installed, and my speakers hooked up, it sucks there is no place behind the seats to mount them, unless you cut the body.  I did get it started but it ran rough without the O2 sensor in it, and it was pretty loud with the open header  :gap:

I've got the same problem with the springs contacting the drag link on the passenger side. When I put my flat pitman arm on, I'll let you know if it helps.

whiteman

Thanks MINI, but I think that I rotated my steering box to far forward to use the flat pitman arm.  I am afraid it will hit the frame :dunno:
It is far from done but it is great being able to drive it.  I already have 360miles on it, and boy I love these 5.29s, I don't understand why some would want 4.88's, these 529s help you forget you have big tires.  I changed the diff fluid at 150 and will change it at 500.  Its just cheap insurance :yesnod:  Every thing seems to be holding up well, my u-bolts were a little loose after 200 miles but I after tightening them they are still holding up, wheel spacers are doing well, the bed came a little loose but I added some lock washers and now no problems.
I still have to get my shock hoops made which I am going to have some help from a friend and his tube bender, as well as bumpers, and rock sliders.  I was given an old warn mx6000 lb winch that needs some work but it was free, if i can get it to work I will probably use it in the rear, because I want the warn 8274 up front

Also, since I removed the load sensitive valve I routed new brake lines and did not pay attention to what i was doing.  Now I have on line coming out of the master cylinder running my driver side front tire and one line running the other three,  :smack:  not much brake efficiency to say the least.  I have not mounted my gas tank, it is just held in by ratchet straps. My girlfriends dad just got an old 60's ford with dual 20gal aluminum tanks that mount in the bed he said he would remove them and let me have them, so I may go that route.

The F-150 springs don't allow much axle wrap at all,I was impressed, I am afraid that my front axle will be really bad though.  I should be making my front drive line around the end of the week.  I bought 4 - rancho 9000rx adjustable shocks for know, they have 15.6" of travel so we will see how they do for now because funds are low.  I will be out of school soon though and working full time, then my build should move a little quicker.

So I will try and keep you guys up dated, but in the mean time i will be out smashing on it, cant wait for 4-Wheel drive. :rockingout:

Ramrod

ok a few questions for you:

have you driven it on the street much and if so is it getting any wobbles?
Do you have a pinion angle shim in the front, what size?
How long are your front shackles?
how far is it from the bottom of the frame straight down to the center of the bottom bolt of the front shackle?
can I get a pic of the front shackle setup from the side at ride height on level ground?
a pic of the front shackle from the side at full compression

reason for so many questions is because my truck is getting worse and worse death wobble from the shackles being so long and i'm thinking of mounting some under the frame really angled back to hopefully lower the lift and get a better angle up there to get rid of my wobble
