you should really put another leaf in those packs for up front,  I had the exact same ones as your going to run and they were too soft.  I added one more stock rear leaf cut down and it was perfect.  Everything else looks great though

whiteman

Thanks BBW, I will take your advice.  I should be mounting them next weekend.   I have to wait to borrow my friends welder again.

Yea we will see how i like the five leafs, if I do end up running a 4-link and coils I may stick with five leafs so I can hopfully have my suspension balanced.
If they are too soft i could look into air bump-stops or just adding another leaf :dunno:   I will just have to wait and see, I really am impressed with the flex your rears up front gave you, you truck flexes awsome.

whiteman

Heres some :pokinit: that went down too night.

I got my cross member platforms welded on, they fit great, and line right up with the cross member.

whiteman

Some of my welding, easy on the bashing, I'm a beginer. :hammerhead:

whiteman

Here is a brief idea what the cross member plates will look like the right side is not complete yet nore the left.  I will spend some more time tomorrow night cleaning them.

I close shop around 10pm during the week for the neighbors sake.  But when the week end comes there kept up all night

I am sure that it will hang on there anyway, but gusseting is always good!

I am sure I am not telling you anything new! Cool build up though. Makes me want to build myself one! Taking you design now...lol

Hey when I come over on the 17th I'm going to bring my ford over maybe we can go do some wheeling or something.  we'll see what happens.

Yes, there is going to be gussets under the platform that is welded to the frame.  As of right now I have welded a small 1" bead at each end on the under side, but the frame is sitting so close to the ground, I would have o welder up side down, I am not that goo yet.  I will weld the under side once the front axle is in and I can get to it easier.  Thanks for looking out though.

Yea, it's coming along pretty good.  I am borrowing Kevins welder, actually his dads.  Hopfully I can have the front axle in before you come over.

MiniSimp

Gusset that good, the inside of the frame is only 1/8" thick and bends easy.

whiteman

I was thinking about running two gussets under nieth of the platforms running down the frame; and then on the outer edges, have a gusset welded to the sie of the platform , running up the frame.   Does that sound clear.

I'll be over next weekend you better get a move on it if you want to have the front axle in.  I guess you don't have that much to do before the front axle you have to finish your crossmember and fabricate some spring hangers.  right? then you'll be almost ready to set the cab on.

Looks good.

Thanks Mini...

Damn it i cant wait till I get off work.  I need to fabricate, it's like an addiction now, I'm starting twitch and tweak out when I am not in the garage.

whiteman

I cleaned up the cross member, grounded edges down, and rounded corners.
Painted and ready for the holes to be drilled that I forgot about untill after I painted it :smack:

mudadiction

So you decided to paint something blue huh.  What other things do you think you are going to paint blue?

You've tested to make sure that sits flush on the transfer case right?

Looks good!

whiteman

Yes, I suppose that I should take a pic.  I will see if I can get a pic this morning paint should be dry.

whiteman

Ok I got some pics of it in place with 1" of rubber between the cross member and mounting platforms.

It sits on perfect, with all bolt holes lined up. I was thinking of adding another 1/2" of rubber on the top with a small plate like 1/8" sandwiching it in between the rubber :dunno: ,  I think it would help absorb vibration and allow a slight bit more play.

I used dark blue rustole um poof paint.  It was the most close color I could find in a poof can to match the body color.
This things going to end up looking like a big  :stopit:  rainbow.

MiniSimp

With that much rubber in between plates make sure you use a Grade 8 fine thread bolt with either anti-sieze or locktite and torque it to the bolt specs. (I can get the torque specs for ya)

whiteman

Yes I was defiantly going to use Grade 8-  I was going to use four 1/2" grade-8 bolts 3 1/2" long, what would the specs be.

MiniSimp

119 foot pounds if you are using 20 Threads Per Inch.

whiteman

Sweet, now I just have to get a torque wrench.

mudadiction

Are you just going to use 2 bolts on each side or 4?

You should buy one, you will need it for almost everything on your truck.
They are only around $143 from White Cap.
