try to get my buildup thread goin
« on: Nov 03, 2005, 08:06:17 PM »
this is my fj60 landcruiser  i bought it for $300 runnign kinda crappy fuel lines were plugged or sumthing. but anyways to the buildup.
what ive done to it.
put 31" mud kings on it had 29" thornbirds i thoght  were kik a$s in mud but i wanted bigger tires.
fabbed a snorkel out of  a shop vachose and slapped k and n air filteron the end of it.
bought the cheap bed liner rubber crap from walmart and did the whole tub.
chopped the front fenders and the top off behind the rear doors
extended battery cables so i have it in the back so i have more tire room and i took the whole inner fender wells out
have a 2wd toyota rear leafs inthe front cus my other ones snapped and the onyl one si could find that would fit for the time being.
took the headlights and turnsignals off cus im redoing that whoel part when i get my bumper on.
also bought 3 sets of lights from walmart cheapys so if i break em i can replace them easily.
thats all i can remeber rigth now.

what i plan on doing.
get my 39x18x15 baja belteds on
suspension above axle lift
between 1-3"  body lift if i dont have enough flex room after the suspension lift.
definatley a winch
i want an exo cage and a roof rack for my spare and all my saftey  crap
 bucket seats with harnesses
 the marlin crawl box
 a set of 5.29s
dual optima batterys
electric fan
a locked rear and limited front locked front if its not street legal after im done with it
oh and 63" chevys in the rear . thats bout it 4 now.   heres the pics
its a truck its built for this kind of stuff.

I dont know a lot about tubing so I cant answer that.  As for the springs, the chevy's would give you more compared to ranger springs.

The best pipe to get would be mild steel, schedule 40, 1 1/4"  ID (means Inside Diameter)

for the cage you could use any thing from pipe 1 1/4 sch 40 its 1 5/8 od  and a little over 1 1/4 id you could also use 1 1/2 or 1 3/4 round tube .120 wall personaly i think 1 3/4 looks a little big for an exo if you realy wanna get fancy you can use DOM tubing its seamless and a hell of alot stronger but its also alot more expensive than regular seamed round tube or if you realy need some thing that strong and light wieght you could use chromoly tubing but thats a little over kill for a wheeler with DOM and chromoly the steel will have more spring to it so if you roll it wont just bend and stay put it will bend and spring back to its original shape (to a point) both can be bent using a tube bender the chromoly is a little harder to bend
on my exo i used 1 1/2 .125 wall DOM for the main hoop and the rest is 1 1/2 .120 wall seamed round tube good luck and happy building :beerchug:

for all out strength and looks i'd say 1 5/8" .134 wall DOM.  i like the 1 5/8" tube cuz it's unique.
in the projects nooga, anything goes

I wouldnt waste my time on an exo.  They get caught on everything here in the PNW.  A good interior cage and beat the piss out of it.  It'll be fun I promise.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??
