weekend in MOAB!
« on: Oct 12, 2005, 10:40:45 PM »
Whats up guys, just got back from a trip to moab. me, my dad and some freinds went the 5th through the 10th this month. what a blast! I didn't have the money to take my 84 X-cab so we drove my dad's 88 4runner (locked rear, limited slip front, 5.29s, v-6, still IFS cause its his daily driver, 4 inch lift, 34 inch TRXUS tires) got some good pics. Enjoy!

Hey motorider228, he took the skinny pedal all the way down, line. thats what happens when you got a tuneport v-8 and 30 years stock car racing experiance! it takes a goose on the throttle to get up, but not that much. here's a pic just before he landed on the hood, both of his front tires are off the ground about two feet.

Good thing the jeep had that exo rund the fenders... :disturbed:

I gotta try Widow Maker Hill again in March when I'm in Moab, now that I'm married it only seems appropriate  :yesnod:   I hear that it is getting more difficult, the last time I was there my toy went up without hardly slipping a tire.  I was actually amazed at how easy it went, nobody else made it that year (Old Bronco & Blazer).

It has gotten alot worse. I have a freind that was there about three years ago and he said it was only half as bad. over the years people are spinning all the sand out of the bottom of the obsticle and its getting deeper and deeper!  the face of that climb is a good five feet or more up now.

boy it has been about 2 1/2 years since I was at Metal Masher, it was pretty dug up back then, looks lot worse now. that obstacle is all about wheelbase and finesse as well. and whoever goes you will have fun making it to Widow Maker as you got to climb up this little washed out hill, and it tilts you towards the big drop off, I believe that they have chainlink fence there nowadays. looks like a really nice trip man. my buds are going first week of November for Crawloween, I will have to sit this one out, major bummer.

Did you do the Rock Pile on Pritchet Canyon?  When I was in there the rock pile didn't exist so we headed up via another ledge.

On my three trips to Moab I have done the following trails: Cliff Hanger (32" tires and open diffs), Elephant Hill (grew up going over this a couple of times a year), Fins & Things, Golden Spike, Gold Bar Rim, Hell's Revenge (finally got out of Mickey's Hot Tub last time), Metal Masher (including Rocker Knocker Hill), Moab Rim (coming down in the dark is interesting), Poison Spider Mesa, Potato Salad Hill (1 for 1) & Pritchet Canyon (didn't do the Rock Pile).

My goal for this year are Widow Maker Hill (the level of difficulty has gone up since I was there before) and Behind the Rocks (I want to climb White Knuckle Hill).  This will be the first year that I won't be driving the toy from Washington so Murphy's Law says this will be the year I break it.

Yeah the climb up to widow maker is a little tricky, the chain link didn't last long cause when we went up it the fence was pushed down and the metal posts where lurking out onto the trail waiting to grab unsuspecting sidewalls  :sheerterror:  :scared:

Awesome! you'll have a blast! as long as your not scared of heights! most of the trails are'nt hard they just have quite a large pucker factor. heres a pic that will make u feel  . yes that's a semi down below on the interstate! that pic was taken from the edge of the metal masher trail.

I climb telephone poles with 1/4" spikes for a living so heights dont bother me much.
