Driving to work yesterday my truck decided to cut out and almost die...  but i was able to drive through it and it was fine...  then the whole rest o the night it was fine...  then driving to work today i was on more flat ground going slower, and this time it just died...  so i had to pull over.. i checked all my  connections.. everything looked good.. after about 3 minutes.. i got back in.. it started up and I drove to work...  so my thoughts are..  would it be stalling when the thermostat is opening? Maybe a hydro-lock or something crazy... any ideas??? Its a 22re 85 4runner

Check/replace the fuel filter.  Vehicle motion could be allowing whatever debris may be in the system tobe sloshing around and plugging it up.  Also check the gas tank.  It should have a drain plug.  Drain, flush tank.
Some idiots are too busy knowing it all, to ever learn anything...

It has a new fuel filter on it with only a couple hundred miles on it...  its seems as though it only does it right when the thermostat opens...  when it did it again today..  i jumped the fuel pump and it was stil sending fuel up front.. then I checked for spark and there was so it wasnt the coil.  Could this have anything to do with the thermostat opening??  because 5-6 minutes later its up and running fine.

unless its telling the computer that its 220 degrees it wouldnt be the thermostat

sounds like a bad connection, or a bad temp sensor

it could be when the coil gets hot it shorts out also, then after it cools 3 or 4 minutes it starts back up

If the temp sensor was bad would that cause it to make the engine die??  the factory temp guage reads perfectly normal....  and if the coil was overheating, wouldnt it do it again and again through out the day? Because it only does it after the whole engine has completely cooled over several hours???  Im totally stumped...  your ideas are helpful though.. i appreciate it.

Maybe a bad electrical connection somewhere...I had a similar problem on my Honda :dunno:

I'm graspin at straws here :headscratch:

This deffinatley sounds like a intermitten short in yer ignition system. I'd start by running through your wiring and checking for the obvious.
It would also be a good idea to check out your fuel flow.. start with the cheap stuff..filter, octane boost/cleaner, ect. If you truck dies from a lack of fuel then starts back up shorlty afterwards, it means the vacuum is causing the clog. I used to do the same thing to my buddys truck by tossing a marble in the gas tank. It would stall out every 5 miles, drove him nuts. Just a few thoughts, good luck dude

my 83 did that same thing some years ago, it turned out to be the ing. box. toyota wanted $400 for a new one.  :yikes:
So I put a msd 6A in it. about $200.  I liked the stock box better butt for $200 dif. I'll live with it.
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:
