another dumb driveshaft?
« on: Jul 06, 2005, 07:36:20 PM »
after putting in the dual cases ive decided to run a rear cv. I picked an extra front cv shaft at the junk yard for cheap. Now after talking to one of the local drive line shops he trying to get me to go with bigger u-joint 1310 or 1350? I dont rember exactly? I was under the impression on that the toy u-joints were perfectly adaquate for a toy with w/ dual cases and 35' tires.  I thought all i was going to have to do was have the shafts lengthend with thick wall tubing and put on a long travle splines and yoke?  Is this guy trying to take me for a ride or what?

Dont worry about the rear not having enough travel.  You'll most likely never need more than the stock slip provides.  If he wont build it the way you want have him call Jesse at high angle driveline.  That'll straighten him out on the strength issue. ;)
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Toyota u-joints are rated as 1 ton u-joints.  So don't get the 1310's or anyhting of that sort.  Toyota joints are perfect, strong and small.  What kinda truck is it in, runner, regular cab, or extra cab?  If it is a runner or a regular cab then go with the cv, it will help with the angle.  If it is an extra cab then forget about it, no need.

Thats what I figgured. the toy joints are the way to go.  I have a 85 regular cab long bed. I'll give jesse a call.
