Both front tires are still on the ground.

The front flexes fairly well, but as IronClad has said, as well as Hyena and TEAM RAMROD, I definitely need more leaves up front! I will add another three leaves from the stock front pack that I took off and see how that does me. That will bring me up to a 7-leaf pack, I believe.

I will have the 63" chevies on the rear soon, so I will update when I do, but for now, bask in the ambience of the stock rear spring flex....

Thanks Rocktoy83, Dan, TEAMRAMROD (Brad?, I get confused between the two of you), and toybuilt for all the generous comments.

So, I am liking the flat black primer and the looks thus far.

I know this thing has more flex. I mean, the primitive Alabama-style jacking system I was using was just not letting me get too much out of it. I know it will help significantly when I get my chevies on the rear too.

I have a question for you folks, habe you guys ever seen any 63" chevs up front? I know I haven't, but is it just because it is a bad idea or just because there are not many people running them up front because of horrible axle roll and sloppy body roll and such?

I was thinking this:

If I build a hanger that is about a foot in drop and a foot forward, then that will blow my shackle angle out of the water and totally screw it up. The reason I ask about using the chevies up front is because with that much front drop and forward mounting, I still want to be able to use the stock shackle tubes/mount.

I also want/have to move the front axle forward significantly anyway due to the fac that from the centerline of the axle shaft on the Rockwell to the top of the housing, it is 9.5 inches.

I have to move it quite a bit (or lift if rediculously, which we all know that I have been there and I am not doing that again) to avoid making contact with the oil pan. I also want to avoid outrageous bumpstops, so do you guys think that the chevies up front is an option?

no chevies up front because of fitting issues and a huge loss of approach angle.  as for lift height I think the best thing will be a combo of big lift, axle forward about 6" and your not gonna want to use the stock shackle tube after that.  If your worried about stability it wont be a problem when you think that those axles weigh so much more and are so much wider than a toy axle.   all the rockwell rigs I see are lifted pretty dang high

The black looks good man! Is that the final color or primer for something else? Wishin' I had a big 'ol garage like that to work in

What if I had the center pins re-drilled approximately 3 or so inches forward on the chevs? Or would I still have horrible approach angle?

I wan't thinking that it was the final coat, but I do like it better than the "Confederacy" Gray. I will probably leave it primer black for a little while because it is cool. I believe I will coat it a few more times though.

As far as the "so-called" garage...that is our smallest photographic studio adjacent to our larger one. I just towed the truck in there so I wasn't outside. I wish I had a shop that large too! We have more shipments coming in, so I have to get that thing out of there.

It is a huge facility though, but we use it! There is nothing like 5,000 watt/seconds on a white background!

I was actualy going to type something very similar to that when I clicked on the thread.  Hopefully "the sheer magnitude of the rockwell" will change his name bank to tonka or something with a little less magnitude

Well, I believe they call mine a 6MGE because it does not all the emission stuff in it like the American models do, but I could be mistaken. It is out of an '86.5 or '87...not exactly sure. I'll have to ask the guy I got it from again. I do know that it has no emission carp on it though. I wouldn't mind having that 5MGE.

HA! I get that a lot. I do need to build and wheel, but with school, it is difficult at times. As far as the wiring, it is not too bad I don't suppose, just can't get in a hurry. I had a bud help me out a little, but it was a little harder than dropping this setup into a second gen, as I have one inch less space between the front clip and firewall. Also, the wiring harness is so old with the first gen, almost everything had to be upgraded to atleast second gen wiring stuff. I will go into more detail after class....
