I have never seen the ring gear on a rockwell before.  Man that is big.

Yeah, it is definitely the largest I've seen!

That is even the secondary ring! It has what I believe is called a "bull gear" or primary above that.

The bull gear or primary is a 2.44 ratio and the secondary ring gear is 4.28, and that equals 6.72!

Yeah!

I am so ready to get the ball rolling! Or should I say, the truck!

Well, update time...I got the 22R out of the truck with the transmission attached and got rid of some more emission stuff.

The Supra motor is ready to go in! I have Spring Break (starting March 27), so I am going to try to get that dang motor in there and running great by the end of my Spring Break!

I didn't take any photographs today, but I will take some photographs first thing tomorrow of all the carnage!

As it turns out, I believe my motor probably isn't locked up!

When I got that thing out, two spark plugs were really loose (could turn them by hand) and the starter was about to fall off!

WOW! Anyway, it will probably run great if I tighten those things up! Oh well, too bad I bought a SUPRA MOTOR!

5MGE!

Anyway, I thought I would show you guys the progress...it took me an hour and a half to get that motor out. Is that a speedy time or what?

I am proud of myself anyway. The motor and transmission are for sale I might add! Buy my stuff!

Well, without further adieu:

All my friends with rockwells are running 5 leaf pack chevy 63" spring with the over load leafs cut down. Then in the front they are running wrangler 3.5" springs. The only bad thing is one of my friends has had to replace his wrangler spring because they tend to "W" the springs after while. A other option is to use the rancho 44044 springs, one of my friends is running them in the front and has had no problems with the springs. Also all these guys are running either a 4.3 chevy V6 or a 350 and either 44" TSL's or 49" IROKS.   :twocents:  :beerchug:

My buddy has 49" iroks bolted up to rockwells with wrangler springs in front and chevy 63" springs in back flexes damn good. This is on a first gen 4 runner and his fenders are cut a lot.

I won't have any heat, A/C, or any ventilation system of any kind because of the lack of room.

I also want the truck to be as rugged as possible, so I won't need any of the luxuries.

I might add that I am putting the battery inside the cab right where the blower motor/oil pressure-battery gauges were.

I think it will be cool when I get done with it!

This is not the transfer case I am going to use (I know it looks terrible!), but I just used it to mock up the crossmember mounts. The transfer case mounts are about six inches back from where they used to be.

This means I will have to get my driveshaft shortened.

The fun continues onward!

I am going to use a 4" by 4" and have an another three inches of drop added to that when I weld the tabs onto the 4" x 4".

I am not exactly sure how far forward I am going to be yet, but I am estimating some where in the ballpark of 6 inches forward of stock location.

We'll just have to see when I get that far, but those are just some of the future plans after I get the motor worked out and going.

yes  when stripped of brakes  they are only about 150 lbs heavier than a 60 front ( front rockwells) rears are even lighter.

IronClad, I am so glad you stopped by to visit.

I was informed that the Rockwell 2.5 ton axles are nearly 800 pounds, but I am not sure exactly how heavy they are.

Believe me though, even with the rear I have completely disassembled, that thing weighs a ton!

Or, it could be because I am not a hefty fellow.

Here is another shot of the front of the truck before motor installation.

As you can see, there was a little sawzall action! I was thinking about Snohman the whole time...HA!

I cleaned up the Rockwell spindle end and prepped the bearing surfaces today.

The rear Rockwell is coming along nicely I might add.

I actually got more work done on the hubs today because my studs and lugnuts came in today.

It was so exciting to have some type of movement on the project!

I will be running these wheels and tires until I decide what kind of wheels and tires I really want.

I think that these are pretty cool. If I really like these, I might just get some v-treads when these tires wear out (If they ever do!).

These wheels can be be mounted either way, so I believe I will be mounting them with the deep dish facing outwards.

Hopefully, I won't be too wide going down the road!

Here is the material I am using for the ULTRA DEATHLY FORWARD MOUNTED FRONT DROP HANGER!

I hope this will stay attached to the chassis.

I figure that with the sheer weight and magnitude of the Rockwell, I should probably build a hanger that is similarly as stout.
