Topic: L43 tranny top boot

Replaced clutch on my 1980 Hilux, 4wd, 4 speed, L43 tranny.  There is a top boot that came apart , can’t be reused.  MC doesn’t carry this part, is looking for it.  In the meantime hoping someone’ has experience with this.  Unfortunately can’t post a photo on my 1st few posts.  The boot is maybe 2-3 inches across, round, top hole maybe 1/2 inch.  It’s next to the shifter on top of the tranny.  Thanks Jim

Thanks, ordered lower shifter base boot, shift shaft housing boot, they got used.  Stopped by dealership, it may be part 33555, my photo matches MC photo for Round handle shift boot, although fine print on MC excludes 79-80 side shifter.  Anyway ordered MCTM-5122, find out next week if it works.

Thanks for having me!  So the boot worked!  Now I have to get my truck back from the mechanics who have fallen in love with it.  They get lots of comments from customers and maybe it attracts new business too.  They bring it in every night and park it in a high visibility spot every morning. 


They put in a new clutch and rebuilt the knuckles.  For the clutch (L43 transmission) I ordered Heavy duty sockets, Lower shifter base boot, Shift lever retainer bushings, Shift shaft housing boot, and the mystery boot is Round shift handle boot, even though the fine print excludes 79-80 side shifting 4 speed.  And Clutch fork boot for 1979-1980 L43.

Marlin Crawler pretty much saved the day, mechanic couldn’t find any parts.  I became aware of MC through Bring a Trailer, a seller highlighted his rebuilt tranny in his HiLux, “sourced through Marlin Crawler”.
