L43 leaking oil out of shifter boot

I've got an L43 transmission and it is leaking oil out of the shifter boot which is wore out. I have ordered a replacement boot. My question is the oils that is leaking out from the shifter have a seal that keeps the oil from leaking out the shifter hole or is it simply the boot itself that keeps it from leaking? What would be the procedure to replace the seal of it has one? Thanks in advance!
