Transmission Removal
« on: Apr 09, 2005, 06:12:35 PM »
I started pulling the tranny out of my 87 runner to swap in one that works, but I can not figure how to get to the two upper most bell housing bolts.  I am sure it is something I am overlooking, and there is definitely someone here who can give me the info.  If there is a write up on it out there, can someone post the link.  Thanks for the help.

I have a 36" socket extension specifically for doing this. You use the extension and a swivel and slide it up the top of the bellhousing onto the bolt. The ribs in the housing guide it right on. If you don't have swivel, put jack under the crossmember, unbolt it, and then lower it down until you can get a straight shot on the bolts. Be careful to keep an eye on the back of the head so it doesn't crush into the firewall.
