cab removal?
« on: Jul 11, 2004, 12:33:33 PM »
well?  anybody ever take their cab off the frame?  when i start getting into my truck for it's buildup, i'd like to pull the cab and bed off of the frame to make everything easier to work on.  i'd plan on taking just about everything out of it...how much work is it?

when i removed the cab i had the whole truck stripped.  It was a donor truck so i cut all of the lines, cut all the hoses, unbolted the 6 bolts that held the cab on, removed the whole bumper.  It was a lot of work.  I think it will take about 2 days if you and your friends are goin at it with a couple of 30 packs of cold bud .    :beerchug:    Its nothing to be afraid of.  just lifting it off is the hard part.
ah the beauty of a cuttin torch

about a half a day to take it off.

there are 6 mounts going to the fram.  four on the floor board and two up front near the radiator.

take my advise and use air tools.  it will go so much faster.

remove the front fenders, hood, radiator, power steering resivor, unplug all of the wiring off of the motor, (don't worry the plugs won't plug into the wrong ones when assembling them back together.), then coil the wire harness up and tape it to the fire wall, disconnect the brake lines at the frame mounts and the rear line on the pass side at the frame, remove the steering colum, disconnect the fuel lines including the vent from the carb,

one guy in the front and tqwo guys at the rear corners.

i think i got it all,  have fun.

i'm probably not gonna worry too much about wiring, as i'm probably going to redo most of it.  my truck is a mess :smack:  might just strip it all out and go with a painless universal harness

i wouldn't start cutting all the wires.  it's bad practice to burn your bridges.

it doesn't hurt to just unplug the wiring.  shoot it would only take me about ten minutes to do that.

if you want to go with painless then go ahead but why not have a god stock harness in your hand incase if they send the wrong one, or your buddy needs it, or the painless one gets damaged in shipping.  what ever.  it just seems to easy of a thing to do to me to not do it.
