I've owned and used both Premier Power Welder and Link-Arc(now are the same company) on the trail and at home.  Works  great!  Don't go 'wheeling without one!

If you have one you'll wonder why you didn't get one before.  You will  gain a sudden popularity with folks stopped by the trailside.

NEVER take payment of ANY kind for work you do on someone elses rig.  It makes you liable if that work fails to hold up later.  No beer, food, or money.  "The warranty expires when it's cool enough to touch, or three feet, which ever comes first."

Get one, you be glad you did!

Had a buddy who had the redi-welder. Worked great on the thick stuff but burned through the broken exhaust tube he was trying to weld up. Can't adjust them low enough for the thin stuff.

:headscratch: Who needs thin metal anyway? :dunno: Almost my entire suspension components are made of at least 3/16"  :-\\ sure my rig might weigh 5+large but I don't care   :beerchug:  I want one of those tow behind Miller welders(ones for major job sites) put some coils and 35's under it and take off :flamer:

That's cheaper then the other one, but I would like to see more on it before I decided to buy one.

I like how some of the onboard welders have 110V outlets.  That would be real handy.  I wonder if you could combine an onboard welder and onboard air compressor to do a little AirArc cutting...

Mr. Willy-

Premier Power Welder is definitely the way to fly.  Most everyone in the local club that can afford on-board has a PPW.  I've seen 'em in action and they are great!  Plus that 110V outlet runs a blender  :eyebrow:

There is a guy from my club that was able to make his own onboard welder with parts that he ordered from NAPA. He welds stuff all the time with it on the trail and it seems to work good at a fraction of the price. I don't know any more specifics other than he went to NAPA and looked through some of the more specialized catalogs until he found what he was looking for. He had to piece it together with a few different part numbers but I don't think it was too hard to find. I think he got the part numbers and information on how to do it off a bulletin board, maybe pirate.
If you still have control you aren't going fast enough

i just got a ready welder, its got some power! connected to my two shitty autozone batteries in my truck, it can blow through 1/4". hooked to three batteries has got to be rad! thin stuff is tricky, i havent tried it yet, but just hooking one battery or a12v and a 6v is supposed to make thin stuff easy. i got a ready instead of an onboard for a couple reasons, mostly, it's gonna be my main welder for this summer at least and i'm gonna be building a rock/log cabin with a steel frame at 9,500 ft.    8)    and there is no power up there.  i can also hook gas up to it, and i can transport between trucks easily if needed. not to mention hook it to 220v.   Aaaand welding aluminum with it is supposed to be the shizt, so i see some sick custom mt. bike frames in the near future        .
