Exhaust manifold studs info
« on: Feb 15, 2017, 07:56:08 PM »
So, after doing some research, I found out that Toyota used 2 stud lengths to hold their exhaust manifolds on.  Depending on the setup!  Just want to share the info I found.

Most exhaust manifolds use a 40mm overall stud.  Which is what most parts houses stocks, and lists in their fancy computer.  Including online parts stores.

But the 22RE with the air injection ports, or block off plates, needs the 48mm stud.  Only on the top 4 exhaust holes.  My research has found that most people just find threaded rod, and cut it, or some on Marlin said to drill and tap out the threads to a standard thread pitch.

I got the new studs from Putney.  He only stocks the 48mm studs.  Since, they will fit all 4 cyl and V6 motors.  There was only one other site that carried or even listed the 48mm studs.  22RE.com lists both.  Amazon only lists the 40mm.

The stud on the left is the 48mm stud.  Toyota OEM.  The one on the right is a Dorman 40mm, which is the same size as the short OEM, except without the 6 point end.

Good info!  Thanks for sharing.

Yeah... 22RE Performance provides a nice source for quality Toy parts, AND so far Jerry has been really good about answering my questions.  They know their poop!  And, their customer service is way above average!

Yeah, this is one of those things that I don't ever remember reading about.*  Maybe in somebodies build up it might have been mentioned, but I never knew it.  So, thought I would pass it on in its own post.

* it might have been on Pirate4x4, but I rarely ever go over there.  They don't even recognize my password anymore.  So I need a new account.
