Re-using manifold studs?
« on: Feb 13, 2012, 02:01:04 PM »
Is it safe to re-use intake and exhaust manifold studs? I got a new head from Engnbldr, but it didn't come with new studs. There were no noticeable problems with the old studs, should I put them on the new head or buy new?

If they're OK, just reuse them. There are different lengths (which you probably already noticed) so just make sure to put in same position.

I usually double nut them to get em out so I dont damage threads.

I just put one together for my father-in-laws 93 22re with new studs, but for cash savings you could just put them in your drill and wire brush them clean, turn them over and do the other end, then use some antiseize to keep them from riping the threads out if you ever needed them out.

Yes, intake and exhaust manifolds are a low torque application.

I'll try re-using them, hopefully they will come out without too much trouble.

Reusable.  Seal/lock the head side and anti-seize the manifold side.
