What grade and size (include thread pitch) are the bolts?

The toyota spec doesn't account for you having a plated frame with inserts. Should be fine at 100 though

EASYRYDERDANGER

You were supposed to measure the torque of the bolt just before it stripped and then torque rest 1ft lb less

redneckcustoms13

From what I can tell, he has standard grade 8 bolts in there now. Toyota had metric bolts with a finer thread pitch. We are comparing apples to mailboxes if we start this debate. Get a bolt that you have not cut too short. Poke it in there, tighten to the spec of that size bolt and roll with it.

Oh man that's going to kill you in a fiery high speed roll over. ;)  I would have put either anti-seize or maybe even some strawberry jam on those threads.

Ehhh who torques those bolts anyways. Be realistic.....I have never torqued mine, but I always check them because I have seen too many boxes crack on the trail from not being properly maintained. My torque for mine is a small grunt and it's good lol.

Lots of Dads out Wheeling for Father's Day.
Stopped in at the burnet store to pickup our northwest forest passes.
Parking lot was full of Jeeps and Toyotas headed for the local trails.
After a few wrong turns we found the secret surprise lake trail. There are literally zero signs for this trail. Hell there were zero signs for the roads leading to the trail.
Headed on up the trail for maybe a mile or two and ran into a group of trucks stoped on the trail. Jesse and I walked up to the front of the pack to see what was causing the hold up.
Turns out the hold up was caused by a 1984 Toyota pickup. (Blue truck pictured) The owner had gotten stuck on the main trail obstacle the night before, broken his left front axle and damaged the wiring. Poor guy had slept on the trail in his truck. The group ahead of us was working to winch him off to the side of the trail.
I gotta say the obstacle (I don't know it's name) looks to be quite a bit more challenging than I had expected from anything on this trail.
After they had cleared the blue truck off the trail it was a caravan of one rig after another working at this challenging spot. Some of the Dads had their kids driving their rigs up the obstacle (green Jeep pictured) Daughter driving and Dad spotting. This made for a very slow process.
Well with about three rigs to go before Jesse was to finally get his shot. A lead footed Comanche owner decided to send it. Broken axle, broken ball joint, broken control arm. Yep He was going no where and right in the middle of the trail.
No way up and no way down for those ahead of him. Wow!
What a bummer.
We turned our rigs around and started heading down the hill.
Everyone had a good time in our group but it's not what We had planned for.
For My truck it was it's first time out since the new suspension setup and springs.
Observations
She's a bit stiffer than before so You feel the trail now.
The high speed on road cornering and control is amazing compared to what I was working with before.
It feels much more stable when off camber now.
That's about all I can say at this point. Not enough of a challenge to come up with much more.
Finally got My Wife to come with that was a bonus
Took our American Bully out on the trail with us. She did good but got to hot in the truck.
Check out the broken axle shaft in the water, I coincidentally parked on it. Kind of funny
Quite a few random repair parts laying around.

I think it's called a low resolution picture, which makes reflections appear blocky and overly white

Sucks to hear you didn't make it to the lake. It's a long drive just to get to the trail head.

Been in those situations many times.

Glad to see you are aware of heat stroke in dogs.  Be very careful with over-heating your dog... dogs can go into shock and die rather quickly.  Keep them very well hydrated.

Sounds like a familiar trail adventure.  I miss those days!

I really enjoy the photos and the commentary. :beerchug:

Don't you just love these types of sh*theads who just have to show everyone how it is done,:maddest:, they are the main reasons why my most of my buddies and I no longer wheel holiday/important weekends anymore.  I don't have an issue if you have the "if you aren't breaking you aren't wheeling hard enough" mentality, it is your junk beat on it all you want, just do it when your the only one on the trail.

Wife has now requested I add A/C to the 4runner. LOL, That way the puppy dog can still come along for the ride.
Need some information from the A/C gurus around. Where's the best place to come up with all the pieces I need? Wrecking yards?
Can I buy a kit from someplace?
Nothing aftermarket I want Toyota stuff
