Busted one of my balls playing in a dirty hole.
« on: Jan 11, 2016, 01:24:18 PM »
On the way home from some muddin', I noticed my steering had a very light resistance turning left.  I took it home and gave the underside a good washing and cycled the steering, seemed to go away.  A couple days later I start out the driveway and the truck wont turn left at all. Backed it up into the yard and drove around, steering locking up and releasing randomly.  We figured it was a problem with the steering or something of the sort.  We trailered the truck to my dads house where he has a proper garage and tools, seems we have found the issue.  Dad spent a couple hours grinding down the edges of the birfield housing where the splits expanded it outward just so it would come out of the axle housing.  Currently waiting on all new inners for front axle.

Yes, stock shafts and birfields from '85.  Sank the front end a few times pretty decent, think the most recent one is when the seals gave out letting mud and water in.  Birfield broke back in May 2015.  I went ahead and purchased the Allpro extreme lift right when the truck went down so I could get more flex and upgraded steering.  Once the truck is running I will go to some local pay-to-play places where things are monitored and people don't dig holes out over night.  Might even try to avoid some mud if I can find a good climbing spot  :gap:

6" lift on 35's.
